Utah Bob #35998
I drilled a hole in the top and side and put a padlock through it.

Alpo
I don't know which "kit" you are referring to. There appear to be several. https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1008484087/ That stud looking thing goes behind the big fold down latch, with the shaft sticking through the hole and also through the hole in that L bracket. This one works. You don't need to drill any holes in your can. I bought several of them from Major surplus 10 years or so ago. Much cheaper than that, but most things were cheaper 10 years ago. Major does not seem to have them anymore. cheaper than crap does but I won't deal with them so I didn't even look to see how much they were. Chili Ron
Howdy, Yep that's the one I found. I was wanting to not drill into the box but I might just give it a try with one and see how it goes. I know the lock wont stop the determined but it will stop the reach and grab and run types. And the grab and run guy might be slowed up if I put 25 lb lead shot bag in the can.. Best CR
G W Wade
CR How about hooking a cable to the ammo can along with padlock. I use a Snap Lock gun box under my console that uses a cable around the seat support. Thinking would be nice to secure ammo box the same way. Foam inserts in ammo can makes fair gun box also GW
Chili Ron
Howdy, Thanks GW, another good possible. How are those frozen plains? I haven't seen them in too long. Did some p-doggin out that way before my back problems. Loved seeing 500 round box of .223 for sale at Dakotamart, right down the aisle from the pop tarts... How cool is that? We walked into a diner we had never seen, sat down and a waitress walks up, cute little thing, her first words to us were Good Morning fellas, what are you all hunting this morning? Love that country. Best CR

I found it on the internet and make no claims as to whether or not you should do this. Quote This is how we locked cans in the infantry also to use then for stuff like tools, Pogey bait, key storage etc. The great thing with this way of locking the ammo can keeps its inner pressure seal. This way you can urinate, defecate then add a pack of yeast in the can and put it with some noisy metal pieces inside and lock it up. Leave it in the shade over a summer so someone comes along steals your ammo cans then takes them home to open the cans and blam! The pressured gas fills their place with the worst stink that takes weeks to clear out. A guy in my infantry unit did it and left the can in a stack of cans that evidently a mechanic took later. The way I found out about it was because I was down at the motor pool inside the building and one of the mechanics was told to clear out all the ammo cans in the PLO cage. So this guy had to open every can with anything in them and put the stuff in cabinet bins they recently received/set up got. When he got to the shit can it was hard to open from the pressure and it made a big whoosh sound then several people vomited to include myself. We had to evacuate the building and the smell staid over two weeks. I heard how it was set up later as it was an epic practical joke but I just wished I had not been in the building when it was opened. No one could prove who set up the practical joke so no one could get in trouble but the mechanics never stole or picked up a ammo can again. You definitely don't want to forget which can is the booby trap.
Capt. James H. Callahan
Not trying to pick a fight or be a smart@$$, but unless there's other valuables, why would you lock an ammo can? Just curious. JHC

Also getting excited, checked the road to my range, only 2 ft of snow holding me back now. Another month and should be good to go.
