Texas Lizard Posted February 27, 2019 Posted February 27, 2019 Now that I know what a pocket pistol is...What is the side match??? What does it entail...Speed and hit targets...Reload or second pistol?? Texas Lizard
The Original Lumpy Gritz Posted February 27, 2019 Posted February 27, 2019 On table with 5 rnds loaded. No reloads...... One run, and the target most likely will be paper or such. OLG
Garrison Joe, SASS #60708 Posted February 27, 2019 Posted February 27, 2019 Target is often a paper plate, fastened on a cardboard target backer at a convenient height to shoot, and positioned about 2 to 3 yards from the muzzle. It's a speed run. Good luck, GJ
Hoss Posted February 27, 2019 Posted February 27, 2019 I like when Shooter has to start his own timer. Can’t jump the timer that way!
Texas Lizard Posted February 27, 2019 Author Posted February 27, 2019 Thanks to all for the info...Something new to try... Texas Lizard
H. K. Uriah, SASS #74619 Posted February 28, 2019 Posted February 28, 2019 Depending on where it is done, you may see 2 different pocket pistol side matches. The first is a speed match. Very close target, 4 shots as quickly as possible. The other is an accuracy match, again a fairly close target, but with, well, some sort of bullseye to hit. Again, usually 4 shots. The reason for 4 shots is pretty simple, while many of the old pocket pistols do indeed have 6 chambers, many, especially ones in .38 instead of .32 caliber, have only 5. This, for hammer down on an empty chamber, it's four shots. Obviously for the speed match you'll want a DA pistol, but for the accuracy, you'll want it to be at least capable of SA operation, of not an SA pistol to begin with. Good luck.
Chancy Shot, SASS #67163 Posted February 28, 2019 Posted February 28, 2019 The gun is loaded on the line, not ahead of time at a loading table. We start with gun in hand with muzzle on the table. Target is either (depending on the year) a big dump or a Nevada sweep on three targets at 5 yards. Five shots. Shoot it as many times as you have ammo for. Chancy
Assassin Posted February 28, 2019 Posted February 28, 2019 We run a long distance PP and Derringer at HOW, the plate is out at 25 yards, along with the 2-3 yard speed match. It is fun to have reloads for a change now and then. Just because you've never seen it doesn't mean it's the right or wrong way of doing things. I shot the PP match at the Eastern Divisional and it was a Nevada sweep, I enjoyed it.

I've never shot a PP side match where you didn't load at the table...5 round.

I've never seen one where you don't load at the table either. But most of the ones I've done of the 4 shot variety. And that's the key, there are a lot of different ways these things are done.
