Nice Rifle July Smith ! I have never seen a More Beautiful Rifle then the Henry 1860. Yes I own some AR15 rifle's and have always said what a Ugly Gun . To me a AR is a Tool ! A Henry is a Thing of Beauty and you get to Shoot it too. WINCHESTER got it right the first time out with the Henry 1860. COLT got it right with the 1860 Open Top . 157 Years Later . They both are still the Sexiest Firearms ever built . IMHO Rooster .

Lawman Mays
Glad to see so much interest in the Henry Rifle. It seems that all of us that own one, really love it. There is a reference to an article about Henry's and its cartridge box by Andrew Bresnan. Andy is a friend of mine who reenacts with me in the 66th Il, Western Sharpshooters. He has written a number of articles about Henry Rifles, most recently in the "Winchester's Collector's Magazine". Andy is also a lifetime member of SASS. Buffalo Buck 5042 LTG
I haven't checked out the Wire for a long while. Lawman Mays brought this thread to my attention. I am glad that so many seemed to have enjoyed the article I wrote on the Henry rifle. Since the writing of that article back in the early 1990s I have authored several other articles on the Henry rifle that has appeared in the Winchester Collector Association magazine. Lawman Mays
One more photo of Henry's which I think everyone will enjoy. Being on the firing line with all these Henry's going off at the same time is quite a thrill. This photo is the wall paper on my computer.
Major Art Tillery
So with this continued talk on the 1860 Henry I plead with you... Come on down this May and join us for our annual match at Butterfield Gulch! My pard, Dantankerous and I had a Henry Challenge between the two of us last year and it was a hoot! Best time out of the 10 stages shooting a Henry! (We did it with Black Powder, but not required) Would like to extend the invitation to all of you folks! Come on to Kansas and bring your Henry. Heck if we get enough shooters to join, I may even put up something special for the winner! ( Say at least five). http://www.butterfieldgulch.com/Clarks Station flyer 2018.pdf This is the Black Powder Championship for Kansas... but you can shoot smokeless or Black powder just scored separately. Sounds interesting . I only shoot BP or Subs in my Henry 44/40 . I have many other rifles to shoot smokeless powder in . They are just ment to be shot with BP IMHO. If I shoot it, usually it is with 2F Graf's Black Powder. Sometimes I pair it up with a CZ hammered classic with 30" barrels and all brass shotgun shells! Makes for a good combo.. Dantankerous
Just for fun I tried some 45 Schofield rounds in my 45 Colt 1860 Henry and they cycle just fine. For the purist that gets you closer to the original caliber than 45 Colt or 44-40.

Not much luck in the United States anyways. 44/40 Works just fine . But the 44 special would just be the cats meow ! Rooster
