Subdeacon Joe
was it just me , or did it sound a bit like it was running rough ? Like down 1 cyl CB It's a round engine, they sound like that. Especially if they have been sitting a spell. Excess oil collects in the bottom cylinders and they're rough as an out of the box Ruger until they have run for a bit.

Dusty Balz, SASS#46599
That belongs to Rudy Frasca, this is a well built replica (kit provided by Flug Werk). The engine is an Asch 82 914 cylinder double row radial) putting out about 1900 hp. A Joe mentioned, it's a radial. when they sit oil pools into the lower cylinders and they all belch out a lot of smoke. starting a radial is a lot like finessing stubborn women, a shot of primer, a bit of mixture movement, a bit of throttle. I didn't see anyone pull the prop, sometime, with switches off and mixture cut off, manually pulling the prop through will clear some of the oil. Also depending on the engine you will engage the starter and count the number of blades turning before you fire the magnetos an fuel. Rudy ran this bird at Reno a few times, just really cool to see her fly even if she is a kit.
Doc Flimshaw Sass# 73310
Now that was a backfire! usually, when they really backfire they catch on fire, that's why there's usually someone standing around with a fire extinguisher
