Subdeacon Joe Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 Here is a short story of an Amazing Woman. What make of rifle is that she has? Better photo here
G. I. Tarpicker, SASS #998 Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 Looks like a '76 Winchester musket. Very similar to the one Tom Selleck used in "Crossfire Trail". -- GIT
Subdeacon Joe Posted September 23, 2012 Author Posted September 23, 2012 Thanks, GI. What's throwing me is the fore end.
EE Taft Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 Yup, 76 musket The one in Crossfire trail is a twin to it. I never noticed the long forend until someone pointed it out to me (on the movie). Cimarron offers one called the Crossfire or also refered to as the NWMP (North West Mounted Police) Very cool gun! I've shot one once......been wanting one ever since! ~EE Taft~
EE Taft Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 Cool piece of history on a very tough woman!
Badger Mountain Charlie SASS #43172 Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 She was a dentist also, of sorts.

Grizzly Dave Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 OK folks, I vote a 76 as well, even before seeing that you all agreed with me. Besides Crossfire trail, what other movie has a 76 in it? Not a western per se, well, kinda, it does have cowboys, Indians, horses, but it is set in modern times.

Grizzly Dave Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 OK, I'll give you a HUGE hint to maybe jog your bullet soaked memory... At the beginning of the movie, the sheriff hires his former son in law to track and pursue escaped convicts in to the wilderness.
Grizzly Dave Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 another hint, maybe half way or better thru the movie, there is a great chase scene where the cowboy is on horseback being chased thru town by cops in squad cars.
Badger Mountain Charlie SASS #43172 Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS?
Grizzly Dave Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 Shoer is correct. Do you remember the 76 in that movie?

Subdeacon Joe Posted September 23, 2012 Author Posted September 23, 2012 In knew I could count of the well informed, friendly, helpful folks who inhabit the Saloon. Bottles! A round for everyone. Sake and sushi too, if you got it.
EE Taft Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 I believe it was the sheriff in Last of the Dogmen that used the 76..........I could be wrong though......Been a while. .......Dang it, now I'm gonna have to go out and find a copy of that! ~EE Taft~
Grizzly Dave Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 Taft is right. The sheriff has a 76.
Badger Mountain Charlie SASS #43172 Posted September 23, 2012 Posted September 23, 2012 Soooo, I have a .44.

Yellowhouse Sam # 25171 Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 Somebody get busy and write a movie script featuring her and Calamity Jane. Hey, I'm bein serious as all get out here. This type of material in the right venue could put Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, and the Kardashians to shame!
Subdeacon Joe Posted September 24, 2012 Author Posted September 24, 2012 Somebody get busy and write a movie script featuring her and Calamity Jane. Hey, I'm bein serious as all get out here. This type of material in the right venue could put Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet, and the Kardashians to shame! Heck, why bring CJ into it? These women each deserve their own movies. Be too much for one. The really odd thing is that they could make it 100% factual and most people would say it was all fiction.
Calico Mary Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 Heck, why bring CJ into it? These women each deserve their own movies. Be too much for one. The really odd thing is that they could make it 100% factual and most people would say it was all fiction. Well, look at all the 100% fictional garbage on tv now that gets referred to as "reality".....it's no wonder people get confused
Subdeacon Joe Posted September 24, 2012 Author Posted September 24, 2012 Well, look at all the 100% fictional garbage on tv now that gets referred to as "reality".....it's no wonder people get confused Oh, the so-called "Reality Shows?" You have a point.
Yellowhouse Sam # 25171 Posted September 24, 2012 Posted September 24, 2012 Oh, the so-called "Reality Shows?" You have a point. The reality of Reality shows is that they aren't real.

The really odd thing is that they could make it 100% factual and most people would say it was all fiction. Y'know, Joe's got a good point. They made a movie about Belle Starr years ago, starring Elizabeth Montgomery, but, if I remember, I wasn't too impressed with its credibility. There were a bunch of tough ol' gals out there that could hold their own, e.g. Calamity Jane, Charley Parkhurst, Pearl Hart, and others. Of course, none of these ladies was the type that you would want to bring home to meet Mother. Still, their stories would make some good movie plots.
