Trigger Mike Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 my mom found it in her yard http://i351.photobucket.com/albums/q443/mikehop_photos/Golen20rock200011.jpg
Blackwater 53393 Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 Focus is bad, but it kinda' looks like pyrite.
Big Jake1001 Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 Where does your MOM live? Can you take a focused picture of it with a quarter in frame to give some size perspective to it? How heavy is it? These are things we've gots ta know. Just sayin' Big Jake
Dark Ranger Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 Goldspar is what i always called it,but it's feldspar http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y283/gunclickrick/mlJCrM2.jpg
Doc Shapiro Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 Probably pyrite, but it's not a crystal. But really hard to tell from that picture.
Utah Bob #35998 Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 Could be a nugget, or a meteorite, or a road apple. The pic is a little unclear.
Hardpan Curmudgeon SASS #8967 Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 Don't think it's pyrite... pyrite samples usually have facets or at least some "flat spots." This appears to be a rough sample. Any chance it's just a rock someone spray painted? Not a silly question... but it looks like a sample of a bucketful of rocks we painted for the Boy Scouts "Klondike Derby."
Texas Phil Peeno #50923 Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 Is that a pet rock? I've heard of them but never seen one in person.
Bugscuffle Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 The focus isn't really good enough togive a definite identification. It could be a fragment of feldspar, bit it looks more like a mica conglomerate to me.
Utah Bob #35998 Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 Is that a pet rock? I've heard of them but never seen one in person. I had one once. But it ran off.
Red Logan #12252 Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 I had on once. But it ran off. Come on Bobbie, do ya blame it, hehe
Cash Duckett Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 That is a weather rock. When it's wet, it's raining. If it dissapears, tornado.
Dark Ranger Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 Dang it now i gotta redo my weather rock sign to put tornady on it,being in Kaddyfornya we don't think thatta way~The one at the cabin in the Sierras says if it's white it 's a snowin though~
Utah Bob #35998 Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Come on Bobbie, do ya blame it, hehe I guess not. It was always complaining that I took it for granite.
Big Jake1001 Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 A couple three guys sittin' around the Bar one night and the talk gets to making $$$$. One guy (Gary Dahl) says he can make lots of $$$$ selling anything. A bet ensues and he comes up with the idea of the "PET ROCK" He makes a few million $$$$ and uses the money to open up a BAR in Los Gatos Calif. He named it Carrie Nations, crossed axes in stained glass in the windows on the front doors. Big Jake
The Coconino Pistolero, SASS # 72432 Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 as mentioned the rock needs to be in focus. It appears to have considerable mica in it. Where was it found? Are there more like it or did someone drop their souvenir?

Are there more like it or did someone drop their souvenir? It was in her yard just laying there (just saying ), it is not far from the gold mines we had around here in North GA but she doubted it was gold. I have not seen it in person yet. does a pet rock need a litter box?
Trigger Mike Posted April 18, 2012 Author Posted April 18, 2012 That is a weather rock. When it's wet, it's raining. If it dissapears, tornado. ifn its dry does that mean there is a drought?
