I was hoping for a patriots and raiders rematch, but this time without the cheating (or at least somewhat limited) and that bogus tuck rule. Looks like that's not going to happen.

Santa got me a new rifle!
El Hombre Sin Nombre replied to Knuckles Bandera #43963's topic in SASS Wire
Very nice! I'd be very happy with that Christmas present. -
.....................Firearms must operate as intended by the original pre-1900 designs they depict. Wouldn't this statement completely rule out ruger vaqueros and new vaqueros? As for the bp cattleman, I'm not really sure what the point is. Other than states and countries where SAA clones are not allowed that is.

Different rules for cap and ball guns

That's with a 2 year or longer wait, though

I get to pick up my new Winchester 1873 next week.

This is another one of those baseless rumors that couldn't be further from the truth. As for the current prices, $2000 nib is the going rate on gun broker. If you're looking for a shooter rather than a collectors item, posting an ad here or on colt forum is your best bet. Then you're looking at 1400-1600 range

I agree with you except for the deterent part. The death penalty has never worked as a deterent in any society it has ever been used, no matter how swift. The best example is when they used to hang pick pockets in the public square and yet that was the most profitable events for pick pocketing. The real purpose for the death penalty is that some people are just to despicable to live another day. If only the courts could get it right

I don't either, but certainly on my wish list. The question for me is 686 or 586, and 4" or 6" barrel. I might just have to get one of each

I can't wait for that episode! I'm almost tempted to start a go fund me page just to make it happen

There will never be a movie list or any other kind of list that makes everyone happy. Westerns is probably the hardest because folks here can find just about anything to complain about. I can't say I fully agree with the list, but these days anything at all that even mentions westerns is a bonus in my book. And unlike most lists, these folks provided their methodology as well so you can see how and why they chose what they did.

They got number one right so there's that.

New Winchester 73 Question
El Hombre Sin Nombre replied to C.S. Brady, SASS #63699's topic in SASS Wire
No it was the short rifle, case color frame, 20" round barrel in 44-40. It's beautiful. I'll post some pics when I get to pick it up in ten days. -
New Winchester 73 Question
El Hombre Sin Nombre replied to C.S. Brady, SASS #63699's topic in SASS Wire
I'm resurrecting this thread after getting a chance to look at my new Winchester. I still have 10 days until I will be able to fully inspect it, thank you very much California, but at first glance it's easily the best looking 73 I have ever seen. And while my original Winchester has that authentic real west quality about it, this one is my new favorite rifle. I can't wait to get it out to a match and see exactly how it performs. If anyone is wondering, I got it from our very own John Barleycorn. A finer gentleman and patient seller (I can be difficult to work with) you'd be hard pressed to find. On top of that, his prices were also the best so if anyone is thinking about one I would recommend supporting your local gunfighter and order from him. -
My vote goes to Clint Eastwood, as I grew up watching the spaghetti era movies. I'll probably be crucified for this (perfect timing though being christmas and all), but I have never considered John Wayne an actor. He's basically the same person in every movie. He's pretty much the Nicholas Cage of his time. That being said, if not for Wayne, we don't have Eastwood or Elliot or Selleck, nor cowboy action shooting, so I'll always be grateful for the contribution he made and pretty much creating what we know as Westerns today. As for the service argument, I served my country and lost a few really good friends in doing so. No time ever in my life have I looked down upon anyone else that didn't join the military. It was a personal choice I made for me and in many ways a very costly one. No one should ever feel ashamed that they did not or could not join. There are many other ways to serve one's country.

I like the idea, as I like any outside the box thinking. I don't, however, think it should be limited to the top ten from the last match. I say that because if someone misses a match, well now they're down two matches in the standings because their score won't count until they get back in the top 10. Perhaps it could be it's own category for willing participants and then use the point scoring system like you referred to?

I completely agree. There is always a risk of getting the wrong guns for you, but I would have rather shot with the wrong guns (and indeed did for the first year) than to wait for the right guns and miss out on all that shooting. I think the 92 is your only option if you want to stay within a budget and not use a henry big boy. It'll serve you well, as you will see with many seasoned vets still using them. You can always upgrade later as time and money comes available and still use the 92 as a backup if you do. As for pistols, my only advice would be to at least hold them in your hands for a bit before buying them. Get the ones that fell the best in your hands. I have seen shooters in every discipline use "inferior" guns better than top tier guns because they felt better to them.

Was the 66 ever chambered in 44-40? I'm sure you're right about the 73 and being quite prolific for hunting for much of the 1870's to 80's

Any good Gun/Wild West museums in San Fransisco?
El Hombre Sin Nombre replied to Scattergun Scotsman's topic in SASS Wire
The Winchester house is ok I suppose, but off to the side and for free is the Winchester museum that has so many winchester rifles it's amazing. Definitely worth a visit. Thanks, Morgun. I had no idea this place even existed. I'm going to have to take my kids there one of these weekends. -
That's a great idea. Thanks
