  1. Tough and fireproof are two different things
  2. This prevents the occasional spent cap from embedding itself into those parts of my hand. I find that the Tresso nipples hold the caps better than the Slix brand, but both will occasionally remind me that I forgot to apply the tape I have big hands, but the Pietta 58 grips seem to work out OK. Lowering the hammers made them more like my Rugers with the Super Blackhawk hammers and make them easier to shoot. CR
  3. If these are for your own use, you'll never need to buy again in your lifetime unless you reload 'em 5 times a year. If that's the case, then all you have time for is shooting and loading CR
  4. I figured that to be your position as I read the OP. Hope you find someone capable of filling your need. I'm sure there is someone who could do the work you'd like to have done, and I hope you find them. If Boomstick is willing to try, I'd not hesitate to give him a call. Best wishes for success in your endeavor. I have always hoped that somehow this American made addition would find a way to work its way into our game. Unlike Ruger, it seems this will not be the case with the BB. Merry Christmas CR
  5. We'll be at GOP, Fire & Ice, & Winter Range. Bar is always stocked! CR
  6. Most of it. In .45 Colt chambers, Marlins (and others) tend to have generous dimensions. This stretching and resizing can be hard on brass as well. I have to resize, because they get reused in both rifle and pistol. I'll be that if you only used them in the larger chamber and did not do any more than resize the neck that you'd see longer life in the shorter lived cases. CR
  7. My plan is to stockpile the empties into a bin marked with the number of times they've been reloaded. Once fired in a bin until I need to reload, then segregate the twice loaded until I need to work them into the rotation. After the once fired are all shot and the bin is full, they get reloaded and go into a twice fired, and etc. We'll see ... CR
  8. Chili Pepper Pete put together the Plainsman matches for the Michigan State and the IBPG matches. In an effort to increase participation and introduce the category to more shooters, cartridge pistols were allowed, but score separately and not eligible for overall. Worked well, and we all had fun. If you PM Chili, I'm sure he'd be happy to share his expertise. I will tell you that both shoots were a ton of fun My vote would be to allow a 3rd category for the suppository shooters, with all other requirements the same. Modern with ejectors in the rifle, traditional without ejectors, open with either and cartridge pistols. This would help educate and interest more shooters, who eventually would come to Jesus and see the light BTW - I'm in either way! CR

  10. This, unless your rifle is modified and short stroked to handle the .45 CS. When you do that to a Marlin, you MUST shoot the shorter bullet unless you change the carrier back to the original profile. The main advantage is the more efficient burn in a case size designed for smokeless powder. BTW - I have seen folks shoot .44 Russian in a 44-40 with the modified carrier. CR
  11. My .45 Colt Starline brass seems to never wear out. Been reloaded so many times I've lost track. 44-40 seems to last around 15 or so reloadings before I start to see splits. .45 CS about the same. Just putting 3,500 Cowboy Specials into circulation with the intention of tracking the # of times it's been reloaded. Easy to do - in principle. Call me in 5 years & I'll let you know how that worked out CR
  12. I'd be in for a Plainsman side match! How many do you need? CR
  13. 25 replies, 18 powders. Seems like a pretty forgiving round! CR
  14. Yep - Remi caps and Federal primers CR
  15. Since I don't visit the other place very often, I'm glad you put it here. This means more folks kin poke the poor boy. But not me - no, no, no. Rye is good folk, but his team is just coming up a little short CR
  16. I know of people who admit that they have more money than time, and they have no interest in the savings available from rolling your own. I can respect that, so I hope this thread proves useful in filling that need. If there are 35,000 SASS shooters and 10% of them shoot factory loads at 10 - 6 stage matches a year, that equals over 4,000,000 rifle and pistol rounds. Might be worth the effort, even for a minority? CR
  17. Doc makes a very nice one. I switched to his a couple of years ago and am very happy with it. Been using a bandoleer since i started in 2001, his is the best yet. CR
  18. Dawg is a Colt guy - he says Remies don't fit his hands. I only have 8, maybe I should get some more? Never catch up to the MAN!
  19. Sprinkel the chalk into the shot. You'd be surprised at how much you can get in there.
  20. The purpose of lube on a BP bullet is to keep the fouling soft so the next shot can just push it out of the way and deposit more soft fouling. The poly coating keeps the rifling from leading, and the smokeless powder does not leave a buildup of residue. Can't see how anybody could expect accuracy using real BP (the OP subject) and no lube. Like many, I learned the hard way that the the hotter and drier the day, the sooner you can't hit the side of the berm with your rifle if you don't use a lot of lube and/or swab the bore. CR
  21. Even with Big Lubes, my 30" bores will suffer in the last 4" on hot, dry days and require a wet patch every couple of stages CR
  22. I think you're just saying what others have said in a different way. With the genuine real non- artificial charcoalsulphersaltpeter original BP, best use a lube cookie. I agree about the cost and fuss - Big Lubes all the way. CR
  23. Manatee posts here from time to time, and I still do some business and exchange #@%& you once in a while. Seems irascible as ever and still one of the quick dry wit type you don't forget. IBPG exists largely because of him and CC Top. CR
  24. Paradise Pass offers a .22 side match prior to the main match. Those who have the gunz flock to it and have their fun, then the SASS match starts. There is quite a bit of work that goes into all aspects of this game, and asking the folks in charge to do more work seems a little forward. If your club is up to it and will let you, make up some rules and get 'er done. CR
