  2. He'll be pissed at me for doing this, but: He's back in the hospital in ICU with some kind of infection. Just went this morning so we don't know much yet, but it isn't the good news we were hoping for after the transplant. Ya'll know what to do next, I already sent my request. Update: He's about the same and is waiting to be transfered to the U of Oregon hospital where the transplant was originally done. He'll be in ICU there. Keep up the prayers please. Update 12/20: He just called! Sounds weak, but testy as ever They're still trying to find the source of the infection but he's getting better, probably leaving ICU today if things keep going well. I know he's on the road to recovery, he told me he's convinced 2 of the hospital staff to try Cowboy Shooting So far, so good. He says he can't express how much your support and prayers mean to him, it appears he really does have a soft side and he showed it for a bit during our conversation when we talked about his cowboy family. 12/21 He's outta ICU and back in the transplant ward. So far, so good. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all ya'all from Palewolf, Mudflat and Nellie Belle 12/23 Who says prayer doesn't work! Just talked to him and he's standing in line waiting to be discharged. He's going back home (well close by anyways) for Christmas, plans on spending the holiday with his Mom and family. He sounds tired, but they got the infection knocked out and he's back on the road to recovery. He's watching the wire and says "a big thanks" for all the support.

  3. At 6:30 tonight we welcomed my 2nd grandaughter and 5th overall grandchild. Mom and baby healthy and doing fine. Mackenzie Louise Flanagan was born to my oldest son Matt and his lovely wife Sarah. Cayenne Kay and I have gone from zero to five grandkids in the space of 2 1/2 years. Christmas and family gatherings just got more fun and hectic. I will be custom ordering her first rifle soon.

  4. Last winter I devised a plan to use a different shotgun for every match. I did this with some qualified success. We did shoot a couple of back to back matches on Saturday and Sunday where I shot the same shotgun. I didn't have enough shotguns when I started but collected more than enough through the year and a couple extra. I didn't plan but ended up shooting black powder all 2016. Discovering BlackMZ made it much easier. I've yet to devise a plan for 2017. I'll probably chose a shotgun that I can shoot at my best. It was obvious that shooting a 10 lb 10 gauge with 30" barrels and loading brass hulls in chambers without funnels was not helping my times. I may go back to smokeless. Sportsmans Warehouse is out of BlackMZ. I'm inclined to go back to my Cattleman 45s. I've had at least one problem with the Rugers in every match I shot with them. Between Mary and I we have enough Marlin 1894s to shoot most if not all matches with a different rifle. But it's not the same challenge as different shotguns. I have a new Winchester 1873 45 Colt. If I don't trade or sale it, I may have to shoot it. Same with the Cimarron 1878. For sure I'll shoot gunfighter.

  6. The chambers are all made for the shorter roll crimp shells. The forcing cone allows them to be shot safely, but you will notice more felt recoil unless the chamber and forcing cone is extended to modern standards.

  7. In my limited experience talking with a creditable gunsmith, none or going to sign off on shooting an antique gun with any ammo. By default they will tell you not to shoot it. And I don't blame them. Too much liability. Even if the gun would hold up to a million rounds of black powder loads, he has no control over your loads or shooting of the gun. I took a Baker Syracuse 10 gauge to get it poofed. He provided that service but refused to proof my gun. He gave me a rehearsed reply that he could not recommend shooting the gun for liability reasons. He said proof firing, even though it may pass the proof, it may introduce stresses that could lead to failure. At the end of our visit, he leaned closer and said, "If it were my gun, I'd shoot it with light black powder loads and not worry about it.". Then he repeated his refusal to recommend shooting it.

  10. Maybe another one to look at is the CZ-USA Hammer Coachgun. Beautiful, well made but a tad bit more expensive.

  12. Some were self inflicted. They are 45ACP. But I discovered they will shoot C45S. BUT! The chambers are so tight that the ammo has to sized and very little taper crimp. Absolutely zero tolerance to high primers. Same goes for 45ACP loads. One gun had nearly 0 cylinder gap. .002 feeler gauge wouldn't enter. I opened up the gap. Base pin would jump forward enough to lock up gun. I installed Willson Combat springs - including the stronger base pin latch spring. I may have all the gremlins worked out. I still try every round in the gun before each match. Chambers get a little fouled and it's tough to load and unload.
