  4. Alas, haven't been in years. Mebbe I came to my senses...? "Back in the day," I was a duck-hunting fool. Belonged a the then-affordable club in Northern California. The Richmond Hunting Club was literally run out of Smitty's Barber Shop in Richmond, with leases around Colusa and other areas in the north valley. Shot LOTS of ducks, geese, pheasants, quail, mebbe a rabbit or three... good times. Also used to shoot on a lot of refuges. I think that's what finally caused me to "come to my senses...!" Drive for hours to spend the night in one of two lines: the reservation line if I'd been lucky enough to be drawn for a reservation, or the "sweat line" if not. For the latter, I'd get there the afternoon before to get a decent spot in the 'first come, first served' line to get in without a reservation. Anyway... very little and poor sleep in line, wake up at 0330, get checked in, drive like hell, hike a half-mile to a mile in the dark carrying a huge bag o' decoys, set up a blind, put out the decoys - and wait for dawn. Then, blow my duck calls and maybe get a few shots for an hour or so and it's all over. When my son, Sassparilla Kid, was eight or nine, he announced that he wanted to be a duck hunter. My heart sank. So... I signed him up for Hunter Safety Class, and he became a duck hunter. For a while. I will admit that I enjoyed taking him out, and he got some ducks. And pheasants. And doves! When he was ten I got him a lifetime hunting license for Christmas. But no ducks for a while... they're safe. However, that reminds me! We're only seven weeks 'til opening of dove season! This bein' california, I better start saving up for my license and ammunition - required to use lead-free here now; thirty bucks or so a box... ammunition background check fee... dang.
  5. Hello, I’m having issues with my IAC 93/97. The action binds up and doesn’t open with the hammer down, it cycles when the hammer is cocked but is gritty. It also has trouble ejecting shells. It is an 06 Model. do you guys have any helpful answers to my issue? Or also know of a person I could ask about this? I’m also wondering where I can get parts for this shotgun.
  6. Witchity Grub cake
  7. I have two Samsung blueray players, one for each tv. They will play regular DVDs, blueray DVDs, and audio CDs. They also link to Netflix and Prime via our home wifi. Not very expensive, a bit more than $100 at WalMart or Best Buy, or from Amazon. What you are looking for may no longer be available. Adapt and overcome.
  8. OMG I hope they're not Aussie kids
  9. I read To War in a Stringbag in high school. Good history on the plane and pilots.
  10. The big issue that even fine off the shelf can't generally address is actual head shape. I have a couple of off the shelf, but several customs. Most of the customs are a perfect fit, and you will not wear out a good one. I wear a Western hat daily - took me 24 years to wear out a favorite Resistol my wife gave me. Customs last generations - a rancher friend has his Fathers and Grandfathers handmades. They still look great.
  11. I wear a 71/4 or 7 1/2 and there’s a big difference in the kind of hats. Stetson seems to run a little smaller and Resistol seems to run a little bigger from what I bought.
  12. Surprised DeForest Kelly (Star Trek) and Russell Johnson (Gilligans Island) aren’t listed. They played a lot western roles then. Kelly was often a bad guy.
  13. I wear 7 1/8, but am in agreement with your other gripes. Perhaps Blackwater can chime in with tips on shaping the headband part. I’ve employed hat stretchers that will take care of the fore/aft fit at the expense of making the amidships fit too wide.
  14. Although .22s got started in this area as a way to avoid hunting for rifle brass in the snow, we have more than one club in the area that allow .22s any time you want to shoot them. We just figure out what to call the category when needed, “Senior Buckaroo” being one example. We have even included “mild bunch” in our Wild Bunch matches allowing .22 1911s and rifles. I do not think it has brought in any new shooters though.
  15. Man, chill, you'll have an episode!
  16. Another option to consider. At something like EoT, there is a side match. One stage of of 10-10-4. Ten .22 Pistol, Ten .22 Rifle, 4 shotgun. It's a side match. No one has to do it, and it doesn't take anything away from anyone who does or does not do it.
  17. Are you still duck hunting?
  18. Forget the World, National, Regionals, and even, perhaps, annuals. How many folks begin shooting CAS with the goal of scoring well at a big match in mind? The vast majority are plenty happy simply attending the monthlies and that is where recruiting efforts should be focused. If allowing the use of .22s brings folks to the game, why on earth wouldn't that be acceptable; even if it means an extra category at the local level? Those saying that new shooters need to suck it up and pay their money seem incapable of putting themselves in another's shoes. Dropping a bunch of Benjamin's on decent equipment for CAS is a big ask for a young family and enduring pressure to do so will chase them elsewhere.
  19. Why doesn't anyone make cowboy hats in men's sizes any more. I take a 7 7/8 or 8. I have several that I bought some years back in those sizes. They are wearing out and need replacing. And while ranting, what is this crap with "hard hats", felt so stiff it can't be reshaped and is impossible to break in without a pro quality steamer. Let's carry this gripe further: most hats for sale on the net don't show brim and crown measurements, either.
  20. I don’t understand “show the face of the faves”.
  21. Dangit, Dave... you need to go fishing! That'll give ya somethin' to do 'til duck season starts!
