Lawdog Dago Dom Posted January 30 Posted January 30 A ton of great advice has already been posted. Glad to add to it. Weather is not to be taken lightly. In 2020 we arrived early to set up camp. The next day was the worst ice storm in 50 years. The whole area was shut down. We could not leave the range for two days. A handful of campers with nowhere to go. It was like being on Gilligan’s Island. You see the same people wearing the same clothes every day. Day 3 things were opening up and Shortcake wanted to go into town. I said that would be silly, nothing was open. Well, the Tecovas Boot store was open (nothing else in the entire block). She has some surreal sixth sense that can find stores during weather events. A day later when the match started it was 65-70 degrees. A variety of clothing for the weather is strongly recommended. For auto repairs. We met Joe and Sheryl Janis who run Autoworks in Edmund. 405-348-6522. They specialize in Japanese cars, but Joe can fix anything. Or direct you to who can. A honest mechanic is hard to find. Here’s one. Tell them you know Shortcake. Just down the road in Jones, OK is the Longhorn Cafe. Great breakfast spot, but open all day. The Chicken Shack in Luther is fantastic. They had a crawdad boil one year that was awesome. Check their social media for other food events they may have. Sorry to say the one experience you will not have is meeting “Gun a Doit.” He was a cowboy’s cowboy, and a well liked OKC gun club member who made sure you were enjoying the match. He passed away the year after we met. There is a nice memorial to him in the saloon. RIP my friend. 1 Quote

I was camped just south of Ardmore when that ice storm hit and was on my way north to shoot the Wild Bunch match. I woke up to a thick coating of ice covering everything. I remained in the campground for a day allowing the ice to melt off the highways. On the trip to OKC the next day there were vehicles off the highway on I-35 all the to OKC. I had not seen that much ice since I left Portland, OR where ice storms occur most winters. There were downed tree limbs all over the OKC Gun Club with some range roads closed. Power was out all over OKC. I am still impressed that the ladies running registration left their dark homes to come to the range and serve. 1 1 Quote
mean gun mark Posted January 30 Posted January 30 if you're going to be traveling in and around Ok city, look into the purchase of a "pike pass" speeds up any tolls and reduces the prices you are charged also. you initially put $40 into the account, and you refill that once it is depleted. Was a pretty easy process for us. 2 1 Quote
