Waimea Posted January 16 Posted January 16 Tradition is important. It gives us a sense of continuity like nothing else can. Nations have traditions. Families have traditions. Even Cowboys have traditions. I have been honored to be Posse Marshall at the Florida State match for a couple of years. If you're on my posse you will hear a speech about the Shotgun Salute after the last stage. As it was told to me the Shotgun Salute honors our fallen Cowboy Brothers and Sisters. Sometimes it is a year before we get to do this but it's an important milestone. I have an interim tradition that is a more personal reminder. I take my main knife out of its sheath and set it aside for the day. It is a visual but silent reminder of a loss. This weekend I will ride the trail without my knife in remembrance of Major Art Tillery.

Kid Rich Posted January 18 Posted January 18 I will be dressed in all black with a black armband when I shoot today. RIP Major. kR
Scarlett Posted January 21 Posted January 21 Miss you Waimea! When I short with you and on the last stage you not only removed your knife but also your boots in memory of a special pard, it was extremely moving. You’re a really really GOOD person and I am honored to call you my friend. Hugs to you and Louise. I hope to see you both at The Last Stand in April. Scarlett

I count you and Tommy amongst my good friends as well. The boots are another tradition. Kind of a silly one at that.
