Cop Copes With a Real Turkey

Kind of reminds me of a friend of mine. Couldn't do this in town but this was out in the sticks.

He's driving down the highway and he comes to a bunch of people all stopped and gathered around something in the middle of the road so he pulls over and walks up and there's a deer that's been hit by a car. And it's still alive and it's just there in the middle of the road and nobody seems to know what to do with it.

And Steve had a license, and it was in the season, and it wasn't dark yet, so he pulled out a 38 and shot the deer in the head and then dragged it over and threw in the back of the truck and took it home.

Once a friend of mine dropped his kid off at school.  Driving back from that he saw a roadkill deer that hadn't been there about 20 minutes before.   Into his truck it went.

When I worked for an off-site records storage company I had to go to Marin General Hospital every day.  One day there was a good sized roadkill buck, 5x5 at least.  Older woman was sitting there petting it.  Public Works took their sweet time getting rid of it.   So every day for the next three days I saw her sitting there petting it.  I  kept wondering how many ticks she picked up,  and if she got any diseases from it.

i can relateto this one - one of the main thoroughfares in town has a cadre of these that can shut down the roadway , they are too big to run over no matter how much you might wish to , besides they are too small to make a really good meal really ,

I couldn’t watch the video. Hearing the action just isn’t adequate, but I got the gist of it.

When we lived in Elk Grove, CA just south of Sacramento there was a big flock of turkeys living near the Big 5 sporting goods store.
Most of the time these birds were not an issue, but occasionally they would get testy or just plain stubborn and they would take over the parking lot or block the entrance.
If you joked about shooting 1 or more of them there was an “enlightened” woman manager that would freak out on you for mentioning such a thing.
She and I banged heads. I won.

I let Big 5 corporate know about it and received a response that she had been transferred and that they were working with the DFG to move the turkeys. This was successfully completed. A week later all the turkeys were back.
I guess they liked it there.
I moved to Oregon not long after that.
