Slow Mo Dern
Hello, Does anyone on the SASS Wire know of or make a light shotgun load with 7/8 oz. of shot using Shooter’s World Clean Shot powder? I have looked at Scarlett’s website for data, but all the loads are all for 1 1/8 oz. of shot. The powder charge is 17.3 grains for 1133 fps which seems high to me. This is another case of someone purchasing the powder first and looking for the load data second. Thank you for your help. Abilene, SASS # 27489
That's just the first two to come up with this google search: site:sassnet.com shotgun load Shooters World Clean Shot
Diamond Jake
Suggested 12 GA loads with Clean Shot and 7/8 oz is 13.5 gr for 850 fps to 15 gr for 920 fps. I load with a 1.6cc Lee dipper, I've found that slightly heavier loads burn a bit cleaner than ultra-light loads. 1
JohnWesleyHardin
Mec 20 bushing with 7/8 bar drops 16 grains of clean shot which feels a lot lighter than factory AAs at 980. Imis Twohofon,SASS # 46646
14.4 gr CS, Gray Claybusters wad, 7/8 oz of #7 1/2 shot in STS hulls with Cheddite primers. like Jake said , a little more is less dirty. Imis 1
Woodchuck Willy 114613
I have gone as low as 12.5 GR of Clean shot with REM hulls, pink wad, 7/8 oz shot, win 209 primer. They tend to get a little dirtier that low. My wife preferred 20 grs by weight of APP everything else the same. It was a lighter feeling kick with the BP sub. 1
Wild Eagle
I just moved up to 15.2 grains of clean shot under 7/8 oz of reclaimed shot. That's what MY #19 MEC bushing throws in MY machine. I have tried lower charge weights, but it was just too dirty for me. I was pleasantly surprised by how light the recoil was at 15.2 grains. If you don't mind spending a lot of time between stages brushing out the shotgun 13.8 grains is a very sweet load, but verry verry dirty. A normal practice session for me is about 50 rounds, so it wasn't worth the extra effort to keep the gun clean during a practice. You'll probably need to run 3/4 oz wads with 7/8 oz of shot to keep the stack height right with such a low powder load. I have found that this works well with all powders that I have tried for "cowboy loads", not just Clean Shot.
Slow Mo Dern
Thank you for all the good responses to my question about light 12-gauge shotgun loads using Shooter's World Clean Shot smokeless powder. I have made some rounds using the above suggestions and I will try them on the cowboy range Friday afternoon. Thanks again. You guys are the best. Slow Mo Dern
Howdy! Thanks again for all the responses and how-to advice on making light shotgun loads with Shooter’s World Clean Shot smokeless powder. The load I will use is: Winchester AA hull, STS, Gun Club, or Nitro hull. Cheddite 209 primer. WAA12L gray wad or Clay Buster 0178-12 gray wad. #8 shot – 7/8 oz. 15.7 grains of Shooter’s World Clean Shot powder. 15.7 grains of SWCS powder = one 1.6 cc Lee yellow-colored dipper scoop. This is a light load and seems to work fine without being too dirty. These shells were loaded on a LEE Load-All using the Lee dipper to measure the powder. Thanks again for all your help. All the best, Slow Mo Dern
Sgt. Hochbauer, SASS #64409
I just purchased a jug of clean shot and have to get the bushing to start to use it for shotgun loads. But did load some .38 spcl with 105gr bullets and 3.2 gr of clean shot was a nice load. It meters very well . Hochbauer 1

Abilene, SASS # 27489
Sounds good, Slo Mo, but I'm betting one of the Load-All's powder bushings will throw close to what you want (you will not notice any difference if +- 0.5gr). I dip the black powder when I load BP on my Load-All, but use a bushing for smokeless and it is definitely faster. I'm not sure how dense Clean Shot is but I suggest starting with the .134 bushing and go up or down from there to get what you want.
