Lawdog Dago Dom Posted September 21, 2024 Posted September 21, 2024 House may force vote on bill to eliminate rules that reduce pensioners' Social Security benefits (msn.com)
Linn Keller, SASS 27332, BOLD 103 Posted September 21, 2024 Posted September 21, 2024 G-d grant its passage! I paid into -- that is, the government legally stole from my every paycheck outside of public employment -- that money is rightfully MINE and I want it back!
DeaconKC Posted September 22, 2024 Posted September 22, 2024 My wife worked for over 20 years outside of Gov't payroll, and paid her full amount into SS. She is penalized now because of this. It is completely unfair to folks like her, who paid into and qualified for full SS benefits and now only receives a pittance of what she should.
Dusty Devil Dale Posted September 22, 2024 Posted September 22, 2024 I once made the mistake of calculating (estimating) what I would have had at my retirement from 44 years working, if I'd been allowed to keep and invest my payments into SS. It would have been mine to invest through the 70s and 80s, when the compounding interest rate on simple CD savings was well over 10% and you could buy Microsoft for $1.75/share. Don't go there. Your calcs will make you I'll !
Cold Lake Kid, SASS # 51474 Posted September 22, 2024 Posted September 22, 2024 If it was run by private enterprise, the same way our governments\ have run the pension funds, it would have been called a Ponzi!

Subdeacon Joe Posted September 22, 2024 Posted September 22, 2024 Also, Social Security and Disability shouldn't be subject to income tax.
Eyesa Horg Posted September 22, 2024 Posted September 22, 2024 In VT we pay both federal and state income tax on SS.
