Alpo
A few weeks ago somebody posted asking about a good place to stay between Panama City and Destin. Destiny is approximately 60 miles west of Panama City. Many people started giving them great places to stay. In Mexico Beach, which is 15 miles east of Panama City. On St George Island, which is 65 miles east of Panama City. Today somebody posted by the trip he took to the panhandle. He lived in the peninsula. And he made it up to St George Island and he spent the night there, and the next day he made it over to Cape San Blas which is maybe 20 miles. That's the way to do a vacation - take your time. And again people were chiming in and telling how wonderful the area was and how much they enjoyed spending time around Eglin. St George, as I already said, is 65 miles east of Panama. Eglin Air Force Base is 75 miles west. They're almost 150 miles apart. What does one have to do with the other? That would be like somebody talking about going to go to Los Angeles and someone else chiming in and saying that San Francisco was a wonderful town. I don't think they're very close together. Or maybe someone talking about going to Port Arthur Texas and being told how wonderful Fort Stockton is. Do you see that a lot where you live?
Subdeacon Joe
"We're flying into San Diego Friday morning, we want to go to Disneyland, Death Valley, Yosemite, and fly out of SanFrancisco Sunday afternoon. Where should stay in San Luis Obispo on Saturday?" So, no, we never see anything like that in California. DeaconKC
I live in a tourist area, so during the summer months, yup, lots of confusion. Not so much during the non-tourist season.
Warden Callaway
Son and I staid in Borrego Springs. Wonderful little town. Then a few years later Mary and I spent 2-3 nights there.
Forty Rod SASS 3935
It's been 40+ years since my wife and I went to Borrego Springs. We didn't spend a night, but you are right: it is a wonderful little town. I'm not sure why we never went back.
Warden Callaway
They had in Borrego Springs an Italian Restaurant in a little strip mall ran by two brothers transplanted from New York City. I always figured they were on some kind of witness protection plan.
irish ike, SASS #43615
People think Reno Nevada is next to Las Vegas! 500 miles is sort of next to if you're flying.
Warden Callaway
It amazed me how in to old westerns you could be in Deadwood one day and El Passo the next.
Wrangler Bob
A number of years ago, my in-laws had relatives visit them in McMinniville, Oregon. The visitors were from Wisconsin. They wanted to take a trip to California and they only had three days before their flight left from LAX. They wanted to see Disneyland, the Grand Canyon and Palm Springs before they caught their flight home. I don't remember which one they visited before they left.

They had to make the trip in one day. They didn't have any food, or any bedding, and the only water they carried for both them and their horses was a little 1-quart canteen. MizPete
Apparently there is some confusion among Charlotte, NC (where I live), Charlottesville, VA and Charleston, SC.
Warden Callaway
Up at cross roads of I70 and US54 the big sign says "Lake of the Ozarks". That's right. About 10 miles on US54 is state Route H. Flat land tourists (as we local folks call people from Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Iowa) turn on Route H and go until they run into an inbred local playing dueling banjos. Then turn around and stop in at gas station for directions to Tan-Terra resort that is also on Route H but at least an hour further south. The state letters the secondary roads and they are only unique inside each county. They duplicate in each county.
