Tail Gunner

Heinkel He-177 Greif (long-range heavy bomber)
tail gunner climbing into position. The A-5’s Heckstand (tail position) was equipped with a  20mm MG 151/20 cannon. He is wearing the electrically heated two-piece “Channel” flying suit; 10-30 B-2 Schwimmwester (life preserver); Ruckenfallschirm (back parachute) and a LKp S101 flying helmet.

Hitler forbade Heinkel from building a traditional 4 engine variant instead of the linked engines. You wonder what would have happened if the Germans would have had a satisfactory heavy bomber?

i agree , they didnt need them to reach england , but then they would have to reach the US and they would have needed some kind of island base to start from ,

They would have been able to cover almost all of the British Isles and replaced the FW200 which was a very fragile aircraft. Also, it was capable of handling the FritzX which would have made it a true shipping killer. Ask the Roma...
