A friend of mine. His son is in the Marine Corps.

The unit he is with, is supposed to go on a flote.

They can't find enough ships for them.

What a sad state.

Don't forget all the $$$ that we send to countries that hate US.

Dear Sir,

Would you be kind enough to  pardon my ignorance and explain/define the word "flote" and in what context it is being used ?

(thank you in advance :))

I believe he means "float." Marines are an amphibious force, and units will board Navy ships and deploy. They may or may not have an end destination. Much of the point is training for preparedness, which we are apparently not at this time.

When my eldest daughter was an Lt on the Bonhomme Richard, I asked her what they carried.
She told me, "I haul bad ass boys and their bad ass toys."

That pretty much summed it up.
She took us onboard for a look-see... what a remarkable ship it is.
We spoke with a proud machinist, and I asked "can you fabricate a car?"
He said, "Everything except the glass."

Flote is an old, seldom-used word for flotilla.

Dunno if Bailey was referring to that or if it was a typo.

The Marine Corps is part of the Navy.

Department of the Navy United Marine Corps.

When i was in the Corps, i was on two floats.

There are Marines on Navy ships. all over the world.

It depends where you are stationed. dictates on what, kind of float you are going on.

East coast of U.S. Med cruise, Okinawa far east cruise, Philippines' Singapore, Australia.

Can't say for California. I wasn't there except for Boot Camp.
