H. K. Uriah, SASS #74619
Okay, it's time to put the tongue firmly in the cheek and propose a match where people try to rack up the so called "style points." Points can be awarded for having something special about your costume, using unusual guns, not using the same guns for whole match, doing, within the bounds of safety, amusing or creative things while shooting the stage such as singing while you shoot or something else you can think of, making the timer operator laugh because you got silly with the line, and so on and so forth. And the end of the shoot the shooter with the most "style points" get the right to brag and say, "I had the most style points."
Imis Twohofon,SASS # 46646
hat - check odd guns - check screw up line/ intentional or brain hiccup - check you dont want me to sing! shoot 5 pistols in Josie Wales - oh, yea I am not fast enough to win on speed so I have to have style points where I can get them. Three Foot Johnson
Six years ago, I showed up with 24 guns in 24 different dedicated gauges & calibers for a 6 stage match - "dedicated" meaning I didn't use .38's in a .357 chamber or .44 spl in a .44 mag chamber, etc. With the consent of the MD and posse members, I tossed in a .410 and 28g double with a 20, 16, 12, and 10. Coming up with 18 different rifle/pistol calibers is tough - I had to use 9mm, .40 S&W, and .45acp convertible cylinders, plus .36, .44, and .45 (ROA) cap & balls. ONE miss... I propose the following... Using a different gun than used on a previous stage. +1 per gun per stage Using something other than an SAA/Ruger +5 per revolver. If using an SAA +1 for each 1/4" of barrel length greater than 7.5" or less than 4.25" Using cap & ball revolvers +5 Using cartridge converted revolvers +3 Using a Walker or a Dragoon, +5 in addition to above Using an 1860 Henry +5 Using a Colt Lighting +5 Using a Spencer +10 Using any other Lever Gun besides a Marlin, Winchester 66, 73 or 92 +5 one time per gun. (IE, Evans, Whitney-Kennedy, etc) Using a genuine antique pistol +2 per pistol. Using a 1887 +5 Using a shotgun with less than 20" barrel +1 per quarter inch Using a hammered double +5 In a stage that ends with pistols, shooting the whole stage with smokeless, but finishing with the second pistol loaded with black +25 (The unexpected "wow factor" is what earns so many points) I can not earn ALL of these items. Some costume items... A pocket watch +3 (only awarded for not meeting at least one of the following) A pocket watch made of real gold +5 A pocket watch you have to wind +5 A pocket watch with no cover +5 Going all out Steampunk or US Cavalry +10 Special bonus for Veterans. If you can get of the era versions of any decorations you have earned, +5 per decoration. Bowie Knife +5 Sword +5 Gold or Silver SASS badge +15 Spurs +5 Spurs that go jingle jangle jingle +10 (+5 more for singing the line while shooting the stage. +25 for singing the whole song. Must have the spurs to qualify for these points) I definitely could not earn all of these Doing something creative while shooting the stage +5. Perhaps decided by a majority vote of the posse. Making the timer/spotters/scorekeeper laugh before the beep. +5 Anyone else have any suggestions?
Utah Bob #35998
Problem with the bonus points for Vet awards is that the only cowboy period military medal was the Medal of Honor. No Good Conduct, Purple Heart, Silver Star or other medals. They were all post 1900.

No Good Conduct, Purple Heart, Silver Star or other medals. They were all post 1900. I truthfully don't know when most of the decorations were created, so I don't know how realistic a bonus it is. That being said, if a pard has the Medal of Honor, he can't get enough bonus points, IMO. I thought the Purple Heart was created by George Washington, but it appears I was incorrect. There once was a wound badge, and the "Badge of Military Merit" of which the Purple Heart is the official successor to was created by Washington. I guess Purple Heart recipients could get a reproduction of the Merit badge as a "period equivalent."
