Trailrider #896
That's Montana for you. Front Range of the Rockies clear down to Flagstaff, too! Denver was around 84 yesterday, according to my car's OAT gage. May rain or snow on Mother's Day!

It’s been 37 years since I fished and hunted in Washington State. BTW I can’t remember when Steelhead run, but I certainly remember what’s it’s like hook hook one after 3 days of fishing. Never landed one but what a ride!
Badger Mountain Charlie SASS #43172
Well, it ain't quite the same as it was, Trapper. And you are correct, a Steelhead is in a league of it's own. Landing one on a gear rig is not quite the same as a fly line, but the thrill is still alive and real. Traditionally, steelhead start their migration in late November when the rivers run full, and is opening of the winter runs. They follow the spawning salmon to their redds. Season last until April and then opens again in June for summer runs. But, alas, like the salmon, they have been mismanaged by the State, overfished by the tribes and commercial fishermen, and yes, recreational fisherman. Greed on the river bank is just as ugly as anyplace else. But that said, the rivers run clear, the forest is beautiful, and the wildlife is exciting to watch, and a fly rod in hand makes it all sing. The fish is a bonus. .
Michigan Slim
The smell of the pines and wetlands. The gurgle of the stream. Wind in the trees. Sweet cold drink from a spring. Man, I miss northern Michigan and trout fishing. Someday.
J-BAR #18287
3/4 of my paper factory crew failed to show up for work when the smelt were running in Michigan. I guess they had their priorities right.
