We do not play up santa like telling the children he is real, but when they ask me if he is I often tell them, "Is daddy real?  then santa is"  on each Christmas eve since my 14 year old was 4 i dress as santa during the day on Christmas Eve and have them sit in my lap and tell me what they want and give them a present and tell them I'll be back tonight.  Each time all of my children have come to realize it is me under the suit even my 12 year old back when he was 2.  my glasses are the same as are shoes and shirt underneath that they search for.  this year my 6 year old pulled the beard and saw my mustache underneath.  She was convinced daddy is santa.  then each Christmas Eve night I have the family all sleep together in our room as a bonding and excitement time.  This year half of us were sick with a cold.  I coughed a good bit of the night then at 640 am i coughed so much it set off the glass breaker in my room setting off the alarm.  I jumped up and yelled, "Santa broke in!"  but with the trouble we have had of late everyone heard someone broke in and got scared.  I repeated what i said.  then the 6 year old daughter Rachel  says, "Daddy, I know you are not Santa because when Santa escaped you were in bed, UNLESS you set out the presents and set off the alarm and jumped in bed, but you didn't have time to so you are not santa.  The other 3 know better but we all let her enjoy it for now, besides I told them if anyone says otherwise, they don't get presents.

When I was a small child my grandfather lived in a big old house with no chimney so Santa came down the stairs.  I always felt so sorry for my grandfather because he was never there when Santa came down the stairs.

When I got to the age of questioning Santa my mom said, "If you believe in him, he'll come if you don't believe then he won't" Hmmmmmm...................

During the time I believed in Santa, we lived in homes without chimneys, so I asked my parents how Santa would get in. I don't remember the answer, but I was satisfied.

When I was 5, we were sailing from Seattle to Japan aboard a troop ship in mid-December. (We were to be stationed in Iwakuni.) The weather was frightful and had to take a longer route to avoid the really heavy stuff. There was a good possibility we'd still be at sea on Christmas. I was afraid Santa wouldn't be able to find the ship in the heavy fog and ice.

As it turned out, we docked at Yokohama on Christmas Eve, then took a transport plane to Iwakuni a few hours later. On Christmas morning there was a decorated tree in our quarters with all the presents. I was just amazed at how Santa could keep track of our whereabouts so late in the game. Later in life I realized what a heroic feat my parents had pulled off.

The following year, I learned Santa had modes of transportation other than a sleigh. This was MCAF Iwakuni, 1959. We were all gathered in a hanger and he had a toy for each of kids on the base. Magical memories.

sometimes here Santa shows up in a John Deere tractor.  I tell them he uses a tractor in south Georgia since it does not usually snow here.  I think my oldest daughter even at 14 somewhat enjoy it.

We were stationed at RCAF Cold Lake, then an CF-100 interceptor base against the possibility of Soviet bombers coming over the pole.

We kids got bulletins, first by radar, then by an intercept, all broadcast over the base's low watt radio station.
