Cap and Ball guns for

I have pulled a ball out of the chamber by screwing a dry-wall screw in the ball and pulling it out with a pair of pliers. Works for me every time.

I just did not know if there was a special puller I needed .

In the mid-80's I was shooting a Remmy New Army 58. I had several spare cylinders. I always kept one loaded but not capped. Ten Years ago I sold the 58, but still had the cylinders and the one loaded all six chambers. I decided to sell the spare cylinders and needed to pull the balls and dispose of the powder in the loaded cylinder. This is when I used the dry-wall screw for the ball removal. Padded the cylinder, placed in a vise and in a few minutes all six were removed.

And Yes the Black powder was still good, a wonder-wad was between the powder and ball. This was loaded for about 25 Years.

 

Did I say 51 Navies are my favorite Cap & Ball Revolver ?   Second choice would be 1861's.

Here is a ramrod accessory for pulling a stuck ball in a muzzle loading rifle.

You screw it into your ramrod, and use the rod to screw it into the ball.

Then just pull it out.

 

The brass ring keeps it centered in the bore, so that the screw does not damage the rifling.

You could use one with a revolver cylinder, but using a drywall screw and pulling it out with pliers works!

But I guess I should keep a screw and some pliers and a heavy rod in my gun cart.

The Pietta Hickock Model 51, with lazer engraving. Shoots nice tight groups at 25 yards, 21 grain spout of 3F APP, 77 gr. cast Round Ball. 971 FPS, average of 5 shots.

36 caliber 51, grips are factory plastic, with a two piece grip frame. Found the piece in Cabala's bargain Cave.

Anyone know if the Pietta 51 or 73 two piece grips will fit inplace of the one piece grip on a Pietta1860

Very doubtful. 60 grips are much bigger and different shape than 51/73 grips

I thought all of the Colt big gun designs was off the 51 ?

I found some grips online for a 51 .

I was hoping to find out if they would fit a 60

I tried to fit one piece grips once and lets just say grip making or fitting ant my talent .

I have found two peace grips for 51 and 73 but nothing for 60.

This sight looks like they might make two peace grips for a 60.

Buffalobrothers dont say Uberti or Pietta on them .

How do you know what to buy ?

They generally are slightly oversized to fit any of the Italian cap guns, and you fit them to the gun.

We all know Gander Mountain is going out of business .

I stopped in to day and they have 30% off on all BP supplies .

I picked up 1000 Remington caps for 5.29 per 100.

And APP powder for 17.49 a pound .

I think I might just keep the stock grips now.

Already messed up one set of grips.

Out side two are Long Hunter tuned Uberti 1872's in 44 special .
