Pellet Smokers?

Getting old and lazy.

Find myself NOT using my smoker. Want to do some. But then

think about how much time and work to set and babysit my smoker.

And then start thinking about a pellet smoker.

Do any of you use one? How to you like it?

Thinking about this one.

AA, I have the Big Tex and my son in Az. has the Lil Tex and we both love them. The thing about them is that they'll grill also if you're in a hurry. On Thanksgiving day I cooked a prime rib roast and a couple of turkey breasts and they turned out great. I've had mine about 12 years and the only thing I've ever had to replace was a heating rod that starts the pellets on fire. If we have meat at my house it's done on the Traeger so you can tell we use it a lot. I smoke fish, chickens, ribs, brisket you name it and never had a mistake.

I have a masterpiece smoker. It's not a pellet smoker (although you could put pellets in the wood chip tray if you wanted). The chip tray holds enough to go for 30-45 minutes. For a 12 hour brisket, that's 4 hours of smoke, or 5-6 refills. That's not a lot of babysitting IMO.

I have the Traeger Little Tex. Fill the bin up, set the temp. and walk away. We did two 12 lb turkeys at the same time. Smoked them for 2 hours then set the temp. to 350 for 3 hours. Good stuff

They also have a library of recipe's you can tape into.

We love our Traeger. I have several friends who have them and I don't know of any that don't love them. I use mine at least 5 nights a week.

I'm relatively new to the whole smoking thing, but went for this guy: http://pitbarrelcooker.com/

It's easy, pretty much fire and forget, especially if you use a heat probe with alarm to signal when

target temperature is hit.

I've roasted artichoke hearts and done salmon on planks as well, using it like a grill and smoker.

For $300 it's the best investment I have ever made in cooking equipment! Ribs, chickens, roasts, etc,
