Favorite .45-70 long range bullet?

As mentioned elsewhere, I got a H&R Buffalo Classic rifle for Christmas. Now I'm looking for suggestions on bullet choices.

I know it's not legal for SASS side matches, due to the sights, but I'm not planning on shooting it in SASS anyway. It's more of a hobby rifle, I just want to play around with various BP loads and bullets and see what I can come up with. I may use it some during deer season, but mostly just for target shooting on my range. I've got permanent targets at 100, 200 and 250 yards. In another direction I could probably go 350, and then across a draw and over some trees I could put up a target somewhere 'twixt 600 and 750 yards.

I've been told to avoid the big 550grain+ bullets with this rifle due to recoil, but I can put it in a Caldwell Lead Sled, so I don't have to worry about recoil.

kinda off the original question , BUT , you only have to change out the rear peep to a blade , I think it was less than $15 to get the sight , on the last one I did . If you want me to , I can look up the parts #s for you .

I use a hand cast 340 for most of mt 45-70 loads , 405 seems to get most of the votes around here , until they shoot some of mine .
