What information do you put on the labels of your bullet boxes?
Charlie Whiskers replied to John Boy's topic in SASS Wire
I use the MTM bullet boxes. The only thing I've put on mine is the caliber. I only load for 38spl,(125gr bullet), 44-40 (200 grain) and once in a great while 45 acp (230 grain). I have note paper stapled to the edge of a shelf above my reloader with the grains of powder and if I use something other than Federal Primers I put that on the note. I only use Titegroup powder so I don't bother noting that. The powder charge is marked on the note with the color on the base of the cartridge denoting the grains of powder. Same goes for shotgun loads. I use CCI magnum 209 primers or Winchester 209's if I can't get the CCI's. I use Green Dot powder and I mark the factory Winchester boxes with a Green "Dot" that covers the AA on the lid of the box. When I was using the Winchester AA featherlite powder I marked the lid with a green R. -
Excellent craftsmanship.

Another stinker but not about The Kid is Hateful Eight. I recorded it on Direct TV and started watching it the other night. Made it to 10 minutes in Chapter 2 and that was as far as I could stand it. Maybe it got better, but with Jackson and Tarantino I can't see how.

I've shipped quite a few rifles and shotguns through the Post Office. NOT 1 asked what was in the box other than was it corrosive, explosive or flammable. When I insure it I give the value and still have not had anyone ask what it is. Maybe where you mail from the counter folks are nosier than the 2 PO's I go through here. Plus they each have a copy of my FFL on file so they know or are pretty sure it's a firearm. The UPS stores are the dumb as a post ones to deal with. The manager of the one I've dealt with will ship firearms, but he doesn't remember to tell his new employees when they get hired. I quit going there and pretty much stay with the PO for shipping.

Good advice. You can also tell then it's a machined tool. Not lying, just not telling them what kind of tool it is.

So... was Santa good to y'all...?

We're sticks in the mud. We started giving gift cards several years ago. After 33 years it's harder and harder trying to figure out what each wants. I get mine from 2 local "toy" stores and a Visa I can use anywhere. She gets Visa cards that she can use where and for what she wants at the moment. -
Is it a SxS ? If so, break it down, pack it in box with NO markings on the box that will let anyone know what it is. I have accepted transfers from non FFL's before, but I insist on a copy of the shippers Drivers License and ALL contact information. When I ship to another FFL, I ask for a copy of his license that will have all of that info on it before shipping. The Post office is the cheapest way to go and I have shipped to FFL's and received quite a few from non FFLs and FFLs as well. Never had a problem. The Post Office seldom asks what you're shipping. If they do just tell them it's a disassembled shotgun going to a dealer or gunsmith. As long as it's not explosive, corrosive, or flammable they don't much care.

It may be, but it's never caused any problem on anything we've used it on.

CLR is non corrosive and non toxic. We've been using it for years to clean our Bunn coffee maker. We run that through it mixed with water and then rinse with plain water.

Thank you on the wire for the advice

Merry Christmas and Happy New year to you and Miss Tillie Lunger. Hope to see you at the State shoot again this coming summer. -
From what I heard several years ago Colt sold all of their tooling to Pietta. They make the parts for Colt but they're assembled here and tweeked on here....engraving...custom touches etc. That's probably why they're so pricey. They only turn out X number a year while they concentrate on Military contracts.

No more bidding on auction brokers for me
Charlie Whiskers replied to Warden Callaway's topic in SASS Wire Saloon
I've been buying once fired brass and AA hulls on Gunbroker for years. I try to find one with a buy it now price unless that's an outrageous amount. There are people that have nothing better to do than sit there when it's within 2 or 3 minutes of the auction ending just so they can get the lowest next bid. If it has a reserve price, then you have to at least match that or go a tad higher. Otherwise it will keep rejecting your bid. Most of the guns sold there are by dealers....ok...obvious statement....but they buy the item at their cost then sell it for a tad lower than MSRP; just enough to draw folks in that have priced that item in a local sporting goods store. The biggest problem then is shipping and what the receiving FFL will charge you to do the paper work. Factoring that in, you'll generally get one about as cheap by just going through a local dealer or gun store. -
It's been chilly enough here that when I'm not shoveling that white crud I've been reloading. When I get this last 300 loaded, it'll be 3100 in the last couple of weeks. Gives me about 4800 38's done and 1500 44-40's when I get done loading them. I'm not dedicated. I load a hundred maybe 2 then take a 1/2hr + or - an hour and get back at it.

I can't comment on the 3 model, but I do have 2 of the Alchemista '1's. The 2 doesn't come in 44-40, the 1 does. When I ordered mine I paid extra to have the Alchemista 2's hammers put in my 1's and they are smooth right out of the box. It did take some filing on the front sights though. They were shooting about 5 inches low at 15 yards.

Good point about who owns what. CCI is in Idaho...I think...and Federal is in Minnesota. I use to live 6 blocks from their plant and did a lot of telephone work in the Federal plant. BIG operation.
-
Well, we'll have to have J Bar Binks...see above....to check the hammer springs. He has both pistols (OMV's) and the 66 I was using.

The only problems I've had with FTF's has been with 1 sleeve of Federal 209's and 1 sleeve of Winchester LP. The 209's were an 8 FTF's out of 2 boxes of reloads. I tried the ones that didn't go off in the barrel of my SxS to the barrel that did. And it wasn't just the one barrel. So I quit using those and went back to my Winchester 209's. Now like I said I use CCI magnum 209's now. NO FTF's with those either. The 1 sleeve of Winchester LP's I had trouble with wouldn't go off in either of the pistols or the rifle. There was IIRC 4 or 5 FTF's.
-
I use Federal Primers. Winchester Is my 2nd choice. I do use CCI magnum shotgun primer though. They tend to burn a tad hotter and leaves dust instead of plastic goop in the barrels. It's odd that CCI primers are harder than Federal primers. Both are owned by the same company.

I have 3, 73's. 1 44-40 and 2 38/357's. I had Longhunter do all 3 of mine and couldn't be happier. Plus they're nice people to deal with.

Suppose to be -20 tonight with a high of +4 tomorrow. It's still snowing. Not that much, but I just get the sidewalks and driveway cleared and it starts in again. Oh well.
-
I use Federal LP and SP in my guns. Used Winchester and had no problems with that other than 1 brick I had. I had 4 FTF's out of 100 in my SASS pistols. They worked fine in the rifles. I do use CCI Magnum 209's. When I can't get those I use Winchester 209's. 8 FTF's out of 2 boxes of shotgun shells with Federal 209's made me stop using those.

I have most of the Duke's westerns. Just a few of the real early ones I didn't care for. Bruce Dern made quite a few movies, but never got the recognition he should have gotten. He sure played a rat in his earlier ones. Seems he was type cast to be a bad guy.
