The junior officers that jump him for not initiating a salute are going to get a quick class in etiquette, probably from either a E-9 or an O-5/6. When I went to my first diesel school in Great Lakes back in 1974, one of the instructors (E-6) wore the MOH. Never heard the story, always wondered. BS

One story that my brother did mention: A number of years ago now, he ran into a guy that he had given aid to. While he was working on this guy in the field, my brother gave him a bullet to bite down on (literally). The guy still had the bullet, made into a key fob. BS

My oldest brother was a Corpman with the Marines in Vietnam, '67 or '68. He didn't talk about it much until a year or so before he passed and then it wasn't alot. BS

I saw on TV that a School Superintendent in Australia called an assembly of the 11th graders. She then advised them that things had changed, they would not be graduating next year, but the year following that. The camera panned the students during the announcement. It was great!! After a couple minutes, the "April Fools" was announced. BS

Depends on the individual. How big is he? Good/stable stance? You can download 38s with a light bullet so there is minimal recoil. Check the mfg catalogs to compare weights between 22 and 38 rifles. Just a thought, BS

With regard to shooting black powder: make it easy by shooting a BP substitute such as American Pioneer Powder. It does not become corrosive the way BP does and you'll still make plenty of smoke. Just my 2 cents, BS

Look at the chart that compares caps. Height and diameter are the two biggest items. As for nipples; try the factory nipples and if they work ... I swapped over to Slix nipples. Just cause. Check your manual for what caps are recommended with the factory nipples. Luck, BS

I checked the Cal-Ranch here in Tucson. They do have CCI #11s in stock, at $22.99 per tin. I left empty handed. BS

Gunfighter, Duelist, Frontiersman, basically any category can be subdivided into age brackets. The rules for firearms revert to the base category (Gunfighter, Frontiersman, etc). BS

I've eaten in the mess decks, Chief's mess, and ward room. Of the three I'd pick the Chief's mess every time. Did you know that officers had to pay for their meals (I believe it was at sea only). And you paid whether you ate or not. Never did have to do the mess crank gig. Was always in a billet that was too important to be pulled from. Good memories and bad. BS

Back in the early 80s I was "Galley Master at Arms" at a shore station in Hawaii. After one of the special meals for one of the many heritage months, I asked the Senior Chief in charge "When are we having white history month with steak and potatoes?" The look that I got was not pretty. BS

When I called to check on getting a veterans pass, the gentleman on the other end told me to look closely at the benefits of each pass. I ended up going with the Senior Lifetime Pass. It had more perks. Your mileage may vary, BS

When I joined the Navy in 1974 I was getting $383/month. When you average in 16 hour days, while at sea, it doesn't amount to much. The military couldn't afford to pay hourly wages. BS
