Silver Dollar Drifter
I really like the looks of Uberti's 1873 "In the White" but wondering about their performance and if any difference in upkeep. Will they wear out faster or slower? Anybody shot one with personal experience? What does everyone think?
Stump Water
In addition to that, I have known people to wax them.
Hawkeye Kid
Uberti finish has no impact on performance. Case colored, real charcoal case hardened or blue finish all perform the same. Rifles in the white do have some protection and metal is hardened. I have had 3, shot smokeless and real back; rain, snow and sleet with no real issues.
Abilene, SASS # 27489
They are fine. Most people have no problem with the finish but I know of at least one that needed to be wiped down well after handling to keep the metal from corroding.
Chief Rick
I have one in the white and it has developed some surface rust in areas around the lever. I wipe it down with ballistol after every match it's used and store it in a silicon gun sock.
I. M. Crossdraw, SASS# 8321
Agree that finish has no bearing on the performance of the rifle. As all 73 regardless of finish, they will rust. A good cleaning and rust prevention are necessary to keep the firearms running smooth and at optimum performance. Choose the finish that will make you happy then go shoot. Have fun. Loophole LaRue, SASS #51438
I use Renaissance wax on my in-the-white 1860 Henry; great product. LL
