The Last Stand is coming back!

Recommended Posts

This was the name of the SASS Florida State Championship match for  many years. We are preparing to reintroduce “The Last Stand” (TLS) for 2025.  The Roughshod Raiders is planning to host TLS the first weekend of April (the 3rd-6th) 2025 at Shoot GTR in Gainesville, FL.  We will endeavor to present the highest level of Cowboy, Action, and Shooting that we can create.  Several of the original TLS committee members along with many newer Florida shooters are combining our experience and enthusiasm to make next year’s Florida State match one to put on your calendar!  More details to follow soon…

Yippee! I am tired of hearing all about TLS and how great it was because it ended  BEFORE  I even know about Cowboy action shooting!! :P

You Florida Cowboys and Cowgirls are outstanding and always put on a good match!!

And yes, like @Captain Bill Burt said,  SC will be the following weekend!

Oh, and I’ll be a stage or match sponsor when Y’all get to that point!

Big congratulatory hugs!

Holli and I, and our two kids, attended The Last Stand in 2007, it was our first "Away" shoot where we couldn't just go home every night.  We attended every year thereafter, including "The Last Last Stand" when it moved to St. Augustine.  Although the kids dropped off the posse starting in about 2011 as I recall, Holli and I have attended every Florida State Championship since, with the exception of the two years in Tallahassee but only because the dates just didn't work for us.

So, now we begin the scramble to reset our schedule for this one, but I think we can make it work, and I know the Cracker Crew will put on one heck of a good time!

We will miss the Ides, but look forward to The Reborn Last Stand!

Some of the best times and best matches I ever had were at Weewahootie's Last Stand Matches.  If you can get close, it's worth the trip.

Cheers,

Sure wish it was December, January, February or March!  It was so wonderful to leave the

frozen north and head to warm south.

I agree with that, but April will work.  It also gets it far enough away from EOT so that the folks who travel there have time to recover a bit, and as Capt. Bill Burt pointed out, SC State is the weekend after, so you can get a "Two-For" out of the long trip.  That's what Holli and I are planning to do.  Drive down and hit Last Stand first, spend a couple of days in Florida, then catch Bushwhack on the way back home.  Belton, SC is almost exactly half way home from where we stay in Florida.  Already looking forward to the trip.

Missed seeing you at DE State this past weekend, but man was it Cold & Wet on Saturday, a challenging day for sure.  Sunday was much better.

That Horse and I have a "History".  Can't remember the year, 2008 or 9 as I recall, they had that horse with two large targets, one on either end, setup on what they called Bay 10 which faces close to due south.  It was our first stage of the day, simple Nevada sweep starting on either end with the rifle.  Sun just cresting the berm.  First sweep across, no problem right, the targets are HUGE!  I come back to the middle (the horse) and it's GONE, and I mean GONE.  :o  The air was dead calm, humidity just perfect, and the sun had backlit the black powder smoke so that all you could see was billowy clouds of white smoke.  The target could have fallen down and you wouldn't have been able to tell.  Dang Horse! :P  If they bring that back, Paint It Black!
