Garden oops

Put sunflower seeds out for birds but none came to eat. So dumped them now I've got sunflower plans growing.

I get yellow finches on our volunteers, not the feeders.

The Lesser Goldfinch loves to eat the leaves of sunflowers.  Other birds will gorge themselves on the seed while it's on the flower.

Daddy did something similar a few years ago.

 

He likes to piddle around growing garlic (his neighbor, now passed, got him into it).  There's little nodules that grow on garlic cloves and he had saved a double fist full of the things but didn't know what to do with them.  He couldn't think of a better idea,  so he just broadcast them over a section of dirt that he'd just turned over, halfway covered them and forgot about it.

 

I think every single one of the things sprouted because he had a 8x8 section in the garden covered shoulder to shoulder with garlic that spring when they sprouted.
