Captain Bill Burt
I have a question for the hive mind. I recently traded for a Ruger Single Six in .32 H&R magnum. I received the gun yesterday and it's very nice. Jimmy Spurs did the work, and as expected it's very smooth. It has the larger grip frame, which is my preference. Sharyn has a pair with the smaller grip frame and they're perfect for her hands, but not mine. I'm going to be on the lookout for another Single Six to create a pair. Typically I find my guns on GB. Based on my research, both the shorter and larger grip frames on stainless guns are referred to as KXR3. I like Rugers, but what the heck? Is there any way to verify that a gun has the larger grip frame short of asking the seller to measure it? I don't want to end up buying one and have a mismatched set. Null N. Void
Probably best to call Ruger with the serial number. Most of the 32 H&R are XRN RED SHORT frames. The ones you’re looking for have the same frame as the Old Model Vaquero/ Blackhawk which is XRN RED. I’ve found the markings inconsistent, so best check with Ruger. A Vaquero/Blackhawk grip will fit on the short frame. It is about a 1/4 inch too long but fits otherwise. I bought Old Model Vaquero grips that I liked and sanded the 1/4 inch off. That means I can go on GB and buy a original model Vaquero frame and swap them out. They're going for about $30, which is not bad.
Preacherman
I was so excited years ago when I found out that all Ruger grip frames will fit any single action that Ruger made. I love Bisleys, so now I made 32 Single Six Bisleys and even made a pair of Old Armies into Bisleys! Good shootin'!
Null N. Void
I don’t know about swapping frames. I’d check with Ruger or one of the gunsmiths about swapping. Jimmy Spurs might be able to help.
Preacherman
All Ruger SA grip frames will fit all ruger cowboy guns. They will not be a perfect fit, but close enough and will work just fine. Although Bisley hammer/ trigger will not work with plow handle. Regular hammer/ trigger will work with Bisley grip.

I know what he'll charge, but he doesn't have any in stock. I'm not in a hurry, my 13 year old won't age out of his .22s until December. I'm just trying to learn to verify which grip frame a Single Six has. Since I can swap those out to an original model Vaquero grip frame it shouldn't be a big deal, those are on sale on GB, and aren't expensive. Scarlett
When we bought a Single Six off of GB (part of a pair that is at Jimmy Spurs now) we used this diagram so the seller could verify the frame size. I wanted small frame. Hugs! Scarlett

Captain Bill Burt
Could you swap a original model Vaquero grip frame onto a Single Six that currently has a birdshead grip frame?

Palmetto Traveller
Kitty has a pair that has the "short" grip frame. As mentioned previously you can use OMV grips and remove the extra 1/4" off of the bottom. I ordered a set of custom gunfighter grips from the Eagle Grips gent that was at the GA State match. A bit pricey but she got what she wanted and loves the feel of the narrower grips. If you're not in a rush you can check them out at the SE Regionals.
