Tulsey, SASS#11236
These revolvers could be said to be the guns that kept S&W from going bankrupt. Smith had received $1,000,000 to design and make a 9 mm semi-auto light rifle for the Great Britain before the US was in the war. The weapon was a failure and the British wanted their money back and S&W had already spent it. Great Britain was in need of all kinds of weapons so they accepted those S&W revolvers chambered in .38 S&W in lieu of a fight to try to get their money back. Smith made about 500,000 of these. Most went to United Kingdom forces, but some were used by resistance and other forces including OSS and other American services. The victory model made for US forces started production later and were most commonly found chambered in 38 special with 4 inch barrels although some shorter and longer barrels were made. The navy used many of the victory models for air crews and other US services used them, The 5 inch S&W models were most often seen in the same holsters the British used for their Enfield and Webley revolvers. A shoulder holster was the favorite for US air crews with the 4 inch victory model , but belt holsters were also made...There was such a demand for weapons during the war, even some five shot 38 S&W top break revolvers made by H&R were issued to plant guards. The 38 S&W cartridge or 38/200 in British terms saw a lot of service all over the world in WWII
Shorty Jenkins SASS#46533
I have an "American" version in 38spl. It's a 4 inch in great shape with military shoulder holster. Absolutely love this revolver. Ordnance bomb stamped and lanyard in butt. Great info on Tulsey's part, spot on! Rustler, ya made a good buy! Just sayin! Wild Willi
The 38SW is just a little shorter than the 38 special I would think you could shorten 38 spl cases

Brass is a different diameter. .38 Special is smaller in OD.
