Somebody ought to teach them what a saw is. They wasted a whole hell of a lot of wood. Out of a tree, what, 4 ft in diameter they got 16 planks? :(

But then it would not be a demonstration of how a Viking ship was built.

 

and maybe they used a saw for parts of the ship not on video.  But think they have wood to spare..

Splitting the wood and doing minimal cutting will give a stronger product than just ripping through it with a saw.

Splitting the log radially like they did is way stronger than can be done with a saw blade. There is not one plank that wants to twist or crack.  Who cares about waste when you can get that kind of strength.
