The 24th Infantry

That's the 24th Infantry REGIMENT, not the 24th Infantry Division.  Two completely different units with vastly different stories.

The Army created 4 regiments for black troops shortly after the Civil War- the 9th and 10 Cavalry and the 24th and 25 Infantry Regiments.

The 24th INF Division is your sister division.

The 24th and 25th were formed when they split the old pre-WW2 Hawaii Division in 2 and then built the halves up to strength with national guard troops and early conscripts when FDR finally got Congrress to allow a build up of the military.

One Grandpa was one of the 'early conscripts' and served in the 25th through the Guadalcanal and Solomons campaign.  He was getting shipped back stateside when the Philippines campaign kicked off.  Come to think of it, he had served in the Division, got wounded, caught a bunch of tropical diseases and been medically sent back stateside before that divisional insignia was even adopted.

The other Grandpa was drafted later (he worked for Union Carbide, so they left him alone in the early war years) and ended up serving in the 24th in the Philippines.  He also ended up being part of the Japanese Occupation for a while.

Exactly! Buffalo Soldiers

Regiment and Division numbers confuse people. The 24th INF (Colored) is one of the units along with the 10th Cavalry (Colored), and elements of the 6th, 9th , and 13th regiments who actually stormed San Juan Hill. Teddy and the Rough Riders took nearby Kettle Hill. Teddy got the headlines.

My father was a Marine in the Pusan perimeter, 1950.  Throughout the rest of his life, he would stare flaming daggers, develop facial twitches and spew an unbelievable stream of vindictive whenever the "buggin' deuce four" was mentioned in conversation or media.

Guess the movie won't include that part of the regiment's history.

The move is not about that time period. So why would that be included?

Here’s an interesting document on the 24th’s performance in Korea
