BP subs in antique guns

Yes and no.  Kind of depends on the antique. If it's a cap and ball revolver or old top break side match gun or an antique muzzle loader,   I'd stay with light loads of real stuff.

But I've shot 1cc BlackMZ loads in my strong old guns like my Marlin 1889 and 1894s.  Also in some of my old doubles that are strong design and good condition.

I loaded up my Pietta 51 Confederate Navy 44s with a light load of BlacMZ. So light I had to use a filler under the ball to get the ball seated and I felt the load was too stout for the guns.

I use APP in my pocket pistols and original Trapdoor. No issues. I try to avoid 777 because it is about 15% friskier than BP.

I sometimes use 777 in modern shotgun loads as I found an APP load won’t always knock down the targets.

My antique shotguns usually  get real BP in brass hulls.
