... and you would knock on people's doors and then run away before they answered?

Well, guess what?

They're Hiring.

I was a kid once.  I wasn't very good at it.

We called it “Bam and Scram”.

UPS calls it “ Delivery”.

At least they leave something for your trouble. :D

Ding Dong Ditch.  I guess I'm younger than you because most everyone had a doorbell.

We had another alliteration for it using "knock" too.

Years ago some kids pulled this on us at Halloween. I was ready for ‘em. I had a mini flat shovel. I ran out, scooped up the flaming bag and launched it at the kids in the convertible sitting in my cul de sac. They were laughing until they saw the flaming crap comet headed their way. I purposely threw it hard to go over their heads...unfortunately it landed in my neighbor’s yard so I still had to clean it up but the looks on those kids faces was priceless. They got the hell out of Didge in a hurry.

I am 58. Knocking hard got a better response...besides, “bam and scram” kind of has a “ring” to it. :P

I must have been a kid...once...I found a picture of me on a pinto pony that some guy brought around the neighborhood!  Guess I was always a cowboy at heart!  Never did stuff like that, however.  Didn't have the guts!
