Trigger Mike Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 We rarely get snow down here and rarer still is for us to get it and Atlanta not get it. We had a couple of inches n the ground, bitter cold all week (mid 20s is bitter for us) made the ground cold enough for it to stick right away. The snow was to start after 10 so the school closed ahead of time. It snowed for 2 hours and then the sun came out and even though it was 29 it all melted and was gone by in 2 hours. The school closed an additional day due to melting snow becoming ice on the road over night. There is still small batches of ice on shaded roads, but school starts back tomorrow. Meanwhile we all had a blast. grateful for each flake. it made the world pretty for a while.
Lorelei Longshot, SASS #44256 Life Posted January 5, 2018 Posted January 5, 2018 This has been a CRAZY weather year. Harvey went in, turned around and came back out to the Gulf, ran along the coast and finally went in east of Houston after we got something like 55 inches of rain. Hurricanes normally just go in, continue inland, lose strength and die. Harvey didn't. The Brazos River drains from as far inland as near the panhandle area, and they got so much rain it drained down to us near the coast. Crested at 55 feet which is the highest ever. Then we had several inches of snow in December which is also unheard of here. Normally if we get any snow it is in late January or early February and maybe only an inch or two. I had at least 2-3 inches at my house in Richmond near the Brazos River. Parts of east Houston got several inches of snow again last night (or night before, I can't remember exactly)along with College Station and some parts northwest of the coast/Houston such as The Woodlands. Now the bomb snow storm along the East Coast. CRAZY weather. We've had more cold nights below 32 degrees since December than we had all last winter which was exactly two nights. Saturday it is supposed to reach 62 degrees. Stay warm and safe.
