Big Sarge
I have a new gun. It is a drilling made for Charles Daly in 10gaX10gaX40-70 Ballard. After researching the gun and examining the proof marks, I can positively announce it was made by J&W Tolley. I'm tickled to death! The seller threw in 19 rounds of original paper patched ammo and the original mutton leg gun case. Have no fear, she won't be a safe queen. I'm already hunting ammo components. BTW, photos are from the original seller. My pics turned out terrible
Yellowhouse Sam # 25171
I like it!!! Don't know much about them but isn't a 10 ga drilling pretty rare?
Noz
3 barrels, outside hammers and what looks to me like back action locks. Should be very heavy and therefore kick like a baby bunny.
Hardpan Curmudgeon SASS #8967
Sarge, that is WAY cool!!! So are those Damascus barrels lined? I'm sure you've heard all the stuff on the "hazards" of shooting those gorgeous old charcoal burners... but hey ~ one of these days I intend to shoot my old Cape Gun. Know anyone with a supply of 10.5X47R brass...?
Shawnee McGrutt
That's nice!

Know anyone with a supply of 10.5X47R brass...? I plan on using light BP rounds, so I think I'll be ok without going with barrel liners. Y'all correct me if I'm wrong. Yellowhouse Sam - You're right about 10ga drillings being rare. What makes this one so sweet it's an English made Tolley (famous double gun maker). Tom Bullweed
Great looking old gun. You gotta wonder how it made its way to Mississippi. I was not aware of the problem of T-rexes, supersized rhinos and zombie goliaths in your area, but it seems that you are prepared.
Waimea
Hey Big Sarge Welcome to the Drilling Club (just made that up). I have a Charles Daly made by JP Sauer chambered in 12 gauge. I also have the case for it but I believe the insides of the case were somehow "reconfigured" for repurposing. If you could take a photo of the insides of your case and either post here or email to me at waimea@dlconcepts.com I'd be most appreciative. NICE GUN! I'm sure it will give you years of enjoyment. Mine has. I LOVE the side lever. Mine is located under the trigger guard. They are really amazing guns! Waimea
Big Sarge
Waimea - A drilling club is a good idea. You can be member #1 and I'll be #2. Tom Bullweed - I bet this gun could tell a story. It was made in England in 1890's, shipped to a the distributor in New York, sold to an Oregon rancher. His grandson sold it to me.
Chantry
Some useful links for 10g, reloading components and obscure brass: http://www.precisionreloading.com/ http://www.ballisticproducts.com http://www.grafs.com http://www.rockymountaincartridge.com/ And I'll recommend the Remington 10g hulls over the Federal, the Remington plastic is a little softer and shell life is longer, I've gotten 5-6 loadings at least out of some of the Remington's and just trim the hull a little shorter when the shell mouth begins to split. Big Sarge
Thanks for the info Chantry. Wimea, I'm attaching a pic of my case. Like I said earlier, my pics leave a lot to be desired!
