Sending primed brass through the mail

My limited knowledge has me agreeing with both of the above.

Be ready to pay some HazMat fees to your shipper.

650 primers cost anywhere from $12 to $30, depending on where and when you bought them.

Hazmat will probably cost $25-30.

Just my .02

I have ordered and received primed shotgun shells from http://www.ballisticproducts.com/ without haz mat charges. I'm sure it was UPS as it was a fairly large box.

Haz mat on primers, haz mat on powder.

But no haz mat on primed shells. It must be some quirk in the laws.

Now, if that applies to just business I don't know.

OR, I could be wrong.

there is a posibility that loaded ammo, primers, etc..... might not consitute a hazard.

I hope somebody reading this thread can tell us.

thanks

A week ago I called FedEx and inquired about shipping small arms ammo and primed brass. My specific question was, Is there a haz mat fee attached to this shipment of these items. I was told no there was/is not. All I have to do is ship via Ground and mark the side of the boxes as ORM-D. So I ship three boxes marked this way for the standard ground fees and all were delivered as scheduled.

Quirk in the law, but that's how it is.

Primers by themselves require Haz-Mat - Cannot be shipped by an individual. Requires licensing.

Primed cases or hulls, no Haz-Mat. - Packaging restrictions apply.

Powder by it'self requires Haz-Mat - Cannot be shipped by an individual. Requires Licensing.

Loaded ammo does not require Haz-Mat - Packaging restrictions apply.

I also checked into shipping powder, primers and primed brass recently.

For primed brass and loaded ammo it has to be marked ORM-D.

Primers and powder have to go through a hazmat shipper. You will need to be prepared to pay the hazmat fee, the shipping costs and the fee that the hazmat shipper is going to charge you for the box. All told I was looking at about $85 to ship 8 pounds of powder. I know this guy and he told me, he would give me a break on his box.

Local Hazmat shippers are sticking it to us. Worms gotta eat too.

Empty cases(no live primer)and bullets can go USPS.

All else is 'common-carrier'.

ORM-D is a no cost HAZ-MAT label. The shipper will have them for you.

Private party, can NOT ship primers or powder.......
