I Did My Part....

Calamity Kris

Recommended Posts

Yessiree I did my part to contribute to the safety of the citizens of Los Angeles. I participated in the gun buy-back program in Wilmington this morning. I safely locked my revolver in a rug and put it in the back of my SUV, keeping the keys up front with me. I drove through their maze, didn't have to sign any paperwork, filled out a quick survey on how well I felt the buy-back programs worked and was on my way. Took about 15 minutes from the time I arrived. I received a $100.00 grocery store gift card for my efforts. By golly, I feel Los Angeles is a much safer place now...........

Now for the rest of the story. My Ex-husband purchased a used .32 H&R revolver for me in about 1980. The last time I took it to a range, the cylinder wouldn't revolve. I had a couple of gun smiths look at it and couldn't figure out why it didn't work. It's been sitting in a gun rug, untouched, rusting away since about 1990. I heard about the buy-back on the radio yesterday afternoon and asked Uno if he thought it was a good way to get rid of the old H&R, since it was only worth scrap metal. He said give it a try if you want to, as long as you don't have to drive too far or sit in a long line. It was a 20 minute drive out there, 15 minutes to process {there was NO ONE in line} and another 20 minute drive back. After all the costs and the value of the gun are calculated, I think I'm ahead $80.00.

BTW - They handed me a survey and it asked if I thought the buy-back programs would make the city safer. I answered NO.

P.S. I have a box of 50 Winchester .32 S&W for sale..............

I took one of these http://media.liveauctiongroup.net/i/14676/14984257_1.jpg?v=8CFA0CA3E63DFE0 to a "buy back" about 20 years ago. Little, worthless, .22 cal. percussion pepperbox. Nipples are machined in, and are a little smaller than a #10. Load was 5 grains of FFFFg and a Beeman "Perfect Round" .22 cal lead ball.

They thought it was a toy and didn't take it.

Joe, that's just beautiful. I hope you still have it.

Kris' H&R was (kindly) about NRA 5%. If it was NRA 80%, it'd only be worth about $50. She did herself proud to get $100 for it. I laugh every time I think of how little the LA hippies got in that exchange. It'd only be fitting if Kris uses the money toward a new gun!

The bullets are SASS legal lead round nose; we may donate them to our club for the monthly raffle.

Still have it. All that fancy looking silver part? Pot metal. Decent steel in the barrel and hammer. But the nipples are worn down a bit, sometimes only 4 out of 6 will fire, and not always the same 4.

Once I was shooting at a phone book at about 3 yards. Ball bounced back and hit me in the chest. My wife will sometimes carry it - unloaded - when she is playing a lady at reenactments. Fits fine in her reticule.

I had a little pepper box just like that 20 years ago. Paid $44 for it and never shot it. Took it to a Gun Show to sell it. Saw a dealer I knew, he said "Give it to me to sell for you" Told him I wanted $50 for it, anything above that he could keep. He died two months later. Called his wife and asked about it. She didn't know anything about any gun and $50. Guess I lost that one, huh?

Every time they have one of those in Shitcago I give my son a few of that type of guns and he gets a $100.00 gift/debit card for each. Gets him extra grocery money while he finishes his schooling in the city. A little under two years to go and then I ain't sure what we'll do then cause I sure won't drive into that war zone to dump the worthless guns even it is a good deal. He's all ready there so some in our shooting club give me any of those worthless guns to give to him to help "make Chicago a safer place."

I'd love to Rye but I don't want to ship it anywhere. The haz mat fees and stuff would make the price ridiculous. I appreciate the offer though.

We will be there, thanks.

I hope you are feeling well!!!!!!!!!!

Much stronger, thanks. Thinking about finally strapping on my irons and see what a train wreck I've become after almost a year without shooting.

BTW - we won't be camping. The total cost of bringing the trailer out there for one night is too much. Can't do it right now. I'll bring some BBQ tri-tip for you though........
