The CIA and Osama Bin Laden

CIA successes are rarely heard of while their failures are widely heralded across front pages around the world. But in a reversal of the usual custom, one Atta Boy! wipes out a hundred Aw. Sh!ts

A CIA-conceived/planned operation, in conjunction with our elite special operations military, not only killed OBL but captured a treasure trove of possible vital intelligence information. And all at the cost of only one helicopter.

Obviously many of the details will remain classified, but based on previous experience, I can guess what components of the Agency were closely involved. Even though I haven't been involved in operations like this for almost 20 years, there is a feeling of pride in my former organization. And I'm very glad that President Obama publicly acknowledged the CIA's lead in this operation.

The public doesn't know, and shouldn't, of the everyday operations that culminate in vital successful operations that help preserve our freedoms. This is just one in a long list.

My heartfelt congratulations to all involved. For most of you, your participation will never be known. But your work in some of the most dangerous areas of the world is greatly appreciated.

The CIA is frequently the butt of jokes and ridicule from late night comedians and political pundits.

They are shadow warriors and won't come out to defend themselves. But for every successful operation like this one that gets publicized, there are dozens that no one will ever hear about. They fight and die in obscurity for their country. No medals. No parades. No best selling books.

We all owe them a debt of gratitude that we will never be able to pay. :FlagAm:

Never had a beef or joked about the CIA on my end! When the job needs to get done - it gets done...period!

I certainly have more confidence in our ARMED SERVICES than I do in our news commentators.

Why Badger, you mean there's no such thing as a semi-auto Colt SAA? I'll have you to know most of the news media are firearms experts...they know so much about them that they use terms we can't even understand........:angry:

Well said.

I've had the opportunity to work with the leadership of most all of the agencies in our government, and while all come with the inefficiencies of a large bureaucracy, the DoD, CIA and FBI stand head and shoulders (no, mount everest) ABOVE the others! Within that group, these folks ARE the elite.

Well Done CIA and SEALs!! As pointed out, these folks labor in obscurity and at extreme personal risk, knowingly expecting little knowledge or respect from our citizens. They are true professionals who help preserve our freedom and way of life.
