Clay Mosby Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 We have a 22' Summit that's been in storage for about 2 years. I cannot get gas to flow to any of the appliances. Both tanks have propane one is 1/2 full and the other 2/3rds. Indicator is green showing pressure in tank. Turning on the stove burner I get a flame for about 2-3 seconds. Trying to light water heater I can get 4-5 second burn then nothing. Any suggestions?
DocDisaster # 45431 Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 There should be a shut-off valve between the tank and the appliances....
Clay Mosby Posted January 24, 2011 Author Posted January 24, 2011 Is this something that would set automatically? When we put the trailer away all I did was shut the valves off at the tanks, didn't shut any other valves.
Marshal Mo Hare, SASS #45984 Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Have you gotten the 2-3 seconds flame more than once? Check for more valves. Around here, I would suspect ice in the lines. You're in Calif. I think, and there is a world of climates there.

I was getting the 3-4 seconds from the water heater if I waited a bit between tries. I noticed a low spot in the hose from the tanks to the trailer, so tomorrow I'll check to see if perhaps there is condensation there.
Ozarks Monte, SASS #66019 Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 The Pressure Regulator At The Bottles Is Not Opening Up..Switch between Bottles a Couple Times.Regulator May be Hung Up.
Oklahomabound Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 ...also, those regulators may have an adjustment, uses a dime as I remember....
quiet jake Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 I've heard of spider webs or mud wasp nests clogging up various gas flow areas.
GunClick Rick Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 What Jake said, wack blidows and dud mobbers
Long Branch Louie Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Your regulator is stuck or the rubber hoses have collasped inside, I think one or the other....
Loophole LaRue, SASS #51438 Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Jake and Louie may each be on to the cause. Wasps love to make mud nests covering the screened vent on a regulator, preventing it from working properly; other insects have been known to clog hoses and fittings with nests and webs. Don't mess with these if you are not competent to work on an LPG system; you don't need an accident. If you decide to go ahead anyway, shut off the service valves on the tops of your cylinders, disconnect the hoses/fittings, make sure your cylinders are not leaking, and then check each component individually, working toward the appliances. Use air pressure, not gas, to test the hoses and fittings. NEVER use a flame to find a leak or test for gas. (Don't laugh; folks do - with disasterous consequences) If you do not find the problem, take it to a pro; don't just hope that it's fixed and reassemble; something is still in the line, and it needs to be found.
Marshal Mo Hare, SASS #45984 Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 A spray bottle with soapy water in it is a safe way to check for leaks if you have to while th egas is attached. Air under pressure is better though.
Red Logan #12252 Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 Everybody has an idea, butt be safe and take the trailer to a company that services liq P and pay to get it fixed, then if there is a problem and have to explain it to an ins co you are covered, wont cost much and you have a record...
Noz Posted January 24, 2011 Posted January 24, 2011 I've heard of spider webs or mud wasp nests clogging up various gas flow areas. Seems that they rerally like the tiny orfices on the pilot lights.

If they don't stay lighted............ Thence you have a flow problem. I'd suspect inadequate pressure in the bottles, as stated regulator. Are you really sure bottles are full. Rock them around, the liquid can be felt. I always start at the cookstove to bleed out air from the lines. YMMV
Seldom Seen #16162 Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 I bet you are out of propane despite what your gauges say.
Malpais Mike Posted January 25, 2011 Posted January 25, 2011 Hello the camp! I'm not a coward, but I'm shrewd--and 66 yr young. I leave gas stuff to my rv blacksmith. I'll tackle plumbing, electrical and Scotch, but leave gas and bearings to my blacksmith. He hasn't failed me and it is cheaper in the long run. My .02 mm
