  1. The ONLY way to judge shooters intent is to ask them. If you don't ask the shooter why they did something then you cannot ASSUME their intent. Had the TO asked the shooter "Did you reengage target 4 because you missed it?" If the shooter answered yes, then it would be a miss. If the shooter said no, round 4 was for the rifle target that was already down then the shooter does not get a miss.
  2. Why does it not matter if it is a monthly match? Failure to follow and correctly apply the rules at monthly matches just means that when those same people attend bigger matches incorrect calls are made. Like it or not monthly matches is where we learn so we need to learn the correct way.
  3. Care to provide a SHB reference for this?
  4. Very true. But it doesn't help when bad apples are protected. It also doesn't help when investigations are purposely conducted with the intent of hiding inconvenient truths. Nobody is perfect and people do make mistakes. Unfortunately so much time has lapsed that the truth will never see the light of day. I know of at least two instances where Kern County Sherriff Deputies used deadly force when it obviously wasn't required. Both times the individual killed was unarmed.
  5. Welcome to what John Deere has become. All that electronic gadgetry is proprietary so only a John Deere authorized service technician can repair it. You as the owner have been locked out of repairing anything. Auto industry tried the same thing but congress stepped in. Farmers were not as lucky.
  6. No need to reshave to remove the stitches. The hair will not grow back that fast. They initially shaved the area for a few of reasons. First is visibility. Hair obscures makes it harder to see the area in detail. Second is that the hair makes it hard to get the area really clean. Third is they don't want any hair to get trapped in the wound when they close it back up. It could be a source of infection. Reason to keep it dry is that stitches are not water proof. So they can wick water along with contaminates into the wound and cause an infection. Even if they used water proof stitches, water born contaminates could travel via the interface between the skin and the sutures. again causing an infection.
  7. Yep happened about two years ago. Took 18 months a FOIA requests to get them to release all the videos. Investigation confirmed that the girl was killed by one or more officers on scene. However, the internal investigation cleared all personnel involved of any wrong doing. If you bother to read the reports was were a lot of questionable conclusions made. No surprise as they basically investigated themselves. Unfortunately no one will ever know the real truth about what happened. Here is a non-paywall link Video shows teen, reported kidnapped, was killed by deputies as she followed instructions Link to the original article published in the Guardian Video shows California police fatally shooting teenager who was reported kidnapped
  8. Yep that would reverse the direction but might cause other problems.
  9. Yes the pint measurement is different but so is the ounce. For Example: The British Imperial fluid ounce is equal to 28.413 milliliters, while the US Customary fluid ounce is 29.573 ml. The British Imperial pint is 568.261 ml (20 fluid ounces), while the US Customary pint is 473.176 ml (16 fl oz). The British Imperial quart is 1.13 liters (40 fl oz), while the US Customary quart is 0.94 L (32 fl oz). The British Imperial gallon is 4.54 L (160 fl oz), while the US Customary gallon is 3.78 L (128 fl oz). Why a Pint is Bigger in the UK than in the US
  10. BTW Most dedicated spotting scopes have variable zoom. Variable zoom scopes or binoculars do not make good telescopes. Note: The above statement does not apply to telescopes where the magnification level is changed by swapping out eyepieces. It only applies to scopes that have a wheel or lever that changes the magnification level.
  11. Newtonian telescopes resemble the below design. The Primary has to be aligned. This article from Sky and Telescope explains it in very well. I have a laser collimator so I used a paper A-hole for the center of my telescope. I'm not going to be able to shoot this weekend so I'll get my scope out and see how good it can focus on something a couple hundred yards away and how much detail I can see vs my spotting scope..
  12. Check your local pawn shops. See a lot of 12 ga break action single shots in the ones around here.
  13. Those weren’t buildings. That was heavy traffic on the opposite side of the freeway. Wonder if any of those cars or trucks were hit?
  14. Keep in mind that with a Newtonian telescope ( one with mirrors) the image is upside down and reversed. Same applies to cassegrain style telescopes. A shot that appears to be low left is actually high right. The mirror of the scope will need to be perfectly aligned or the image will be distorted at typical shooting distances. Otherwise any good celestial telescope will work.
  15. Check out Accurate Molds
  16. When I was a kid all the towns had Civil Defense Sirens. They doubled as Tornado Sirens. Covered the entire town. Maintaining them became expensive and with improvements to the cellular network almost all of them have been decommissioned. There are still a few active sirens. They are located near parks and outdoor recreation areas. My heartburn with this that the alerts they send via cell phones cover way too much area and don't contain enough information. First one I ever got on my phone was a tornado warning telling me to take cover immediately. I was driving down a highway and where I was the sun was shining and the birds were singing with only a few scattered clouds. So I ignored it. later I found out the warning was for a tornado 60 miles and two counties away. Surely they can figure out a way to localize the warning to the area actually impacted. The other thing desperately needed is geographical information about where the warning is for. Hard to make an intelligent decision about what action to take when you don't have even the most basic of details.
