Could someone explain how an excise tax works
Boggus Deal #64218 replied to Alpo's topic in SASS Wire Saloon
A tax stamp for an NFA and an excise tax are, to me, two different things. Supposedly, the excise tax on guns and ammo is paid by the manufacturer to the gubmint and it’s used for wildlife conservation and protection. Blah, blah, blah. NFA tax stamp was originally designed to keep those items out of criminal hands. In 1934, $200 was a LOT of money to pay for a suppressor of machine gun. NFA tax is not an excise tax. -

There's an excise tax on guns. 18%. So, Ruger build the gun and sells it to Davidson's for $100. Davidsons is a jobber. Davidson's sells it to sports South - a wholesaler - for $150. Sports South sells it to Joe's Gun shop - a retailer - for $200. And Joe puts it in his display case with a tag saying $300. Now - who paid the 18% tax? Did Davidson's pay 18% on the 100, or did sports South pay 18% on the 150, or did Joe pay 18% on the 200? Or did all three of them pay 18% every time that gun was sold? I was just reading an article talking about how because the big beautiful bill passed the $200 tax on NFA is going away. And they referred to it as an excise tax. Now if I buy a silencer from Silencer Inc, I pay a $200 tax. If I sell that silencer to Pat Riot, he pays another $200 tax. And if he sells that silencer - this is the same silencer now - to Hardpan (can't do that because they're illegal in California, but this is an example) Hardpan has to pay another $200 tax. I don't believe that would qualify as an excise tax. That's a transfer tax.

I have a nice 2000 1200 Custom Sportster that I would sell. Schoolmarm has decided she’s not going to be riding any longer. It’s a shame we’re on opposite sides of the globe!!

How is it that one person can dictate interest rates? The current Fed Reserve head is Jerome Powell. He’s in for a certain time I’m not sure how long then whomever is the POTUS can appoint a new one. I would think we could come up with a better system than this! EDUCAMATE ME 🙄 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chair_of_the_Federal_Reserve

I normally go there for just a few items so I bring in my own bag. Their prices are significantly lower than most grocery stores around here and the stores are clean and well maintained. There’s 3 stores within 5 miles of me. Coffee, snacks, lunchmeat and chicken, beef are all good deals. If I do get a cart I put my groceries in my car and return the cart and I leave the quarter in there for the next person.
