Which Double Barrel Muzzleloader Shotgun do you shoot or own?

Anybody know what Double Barrel SxS Muzzleloader Shotgun is being used by Matthew McConaughey in the movie, "Free State of Jones"?

The movie comes out June 24, 2016, but there are several Trailers being shown.

I have a feeling the shotgun will become very popular after the movie, at least for soot lovers.r

Most likely a Pedersoli with a replaced triggerguard to make it look different

But maybe not cuz it does have a pistol grip & neither Pedersoli nor Dixie sell one with a pistol grip

I have 2 Pedersolis, in 12 & 20

They are nice guns

Brushy Bob,

Fun to see pictures of the guns being used, isn't it?

I figured Prairie Dawg would come along & help us out.

Dawg, which guns of the list below have you owned and shot?

Which are your favorite & why?

Thanks

Del Rio Pete:

I own all the pistols.

I don't shoot the Remmies much because there isn't much space between the triggerguard & the front of the grip and they beat the heck out of the ring finger on my shooting hand. Also, they foul out pretty quickly with real black powder because the cylinder pin is not shielded from the fouling coming out of the barrel/cylinder gap. But Clint used Remmies in Pale Rider, so I have to have at least a couple.

I like 1851 Navies but I got so tired of spotters calling misses when I hit the targets, that I went to 1860s for the bugger ball. I have 3 2nd gen Colt 1851s, and shoot them occasionally. And a 44 1851 Buntline Just for fun!

My preferred revolver is the 1860, and I have many many of them in barrel lengths from 3" to 8".

They are my main match guns, and I shoot them most every week.

Love the looks & handling, and the bigger ball dings the target better.

I don't have any of the rifles.

I have 10 or so ML rifles, but most are from the fur trade era types, Hawkens & Underhammers & such.

Never had much interest in Civil War rifles

And, like I said, I have 12 & 20 gauge ML shotguns.

Really fun to shoot.

Just a few of my 1860s

Hopefully, I'll get a chance to shoot my new 1860 Army Snub Nose 3" before I see the movie.

I'm still acquiring the list of items Dawg suggested.

Went to pick up Goex fffg, but they said they were out.

Should I buy Pyrodex or Hogdon Triple Seven or APP?

I just can't imagine having to load the guns shown in the movie while under fire.

When I get back from EOT, I'll go see the movie.

Update.... Mr Al Overa was kind enough to let me purchase 1# Goex fffg from his personal stash.

I guess he didn't want we starting out on the wrong foot with those substitute powders.

Thanks for the comments and recommendations.

Original percussion doubles are plentiful and cheap. A new Pedersoli costs more than a lot of originals.

Are the originals safe to shoot? I've been told damascus steel shotguns should be used for display only.

Either Triple 7 or APP, but stay away from the Pyrodex = rust magnet

My two favorite pair of revolvers are both 44 'Colt' clones, one pair by Uberti and the other pair by Pietta. The Ubertis are by way of the Dawg and are somewhat similar to the bobbed top pair in his above photo. The other 'favourites' are 5 1/2" Piettas. What really makes these two pairs stand out as favourites Is the fact that they have been totally worked over by a premier cap/ball gunsmith and are as slick operating as most any cartridge revolver. I do shoot a pair of Pietta '58 Rems just about as much BUT they do have two shortcomings, the frame pinch mentioned by the Dawg AND the plain fact that nothing feels/balances quite as good in the hand as a Colts Army/Navy revolver. The biggest allure to the '58 revolvers is the fact that they make great kit pistols what with all of the accessories and configurations.

I saw "The Free State of Jones" today.

It was ok.

In one scene, Newt Knight, was showing Rachel the double barrel shotgun as they were hiding in the swamp.

She asked what was written on the barrel because she had been learning to read.

He showed her and said "Remington" was written on the barrel.

For a brief moment you saw the stock and it was very pretty wood.

Looked like they had a variety of guns in the movie.
