I tried the pre-cooked stuff from the local grocery store.  It was expensive.  Then the wife of a friend told me to buy Costco pre-cooked.  I did and it was great.  You get at least five times as much bacon as the grocery store stuff for the same price.

this is the same thing we get when getting the precooked. It is good and only takes a couple of minutes in the microwave to have great tasting bacon with little to no cleanup.

I use to buy Wright bacon in bulk packs of end and pieces.  I was marked down considerably from regular sliced. But they started jacking the price up until it was no longer a bargen.

Fascinating that what used to be considered discards has become "prime".

Just like chicken wings... they used to almost give those away.  Now they are broken apart and each piece is called a "wing" and they're the most expensive part of the bird by weight.

Salt pork,  picnic shoulder,  beef tongue, even corned beef used to be dirt cheap.

Baby back ribs used to be trash,  now they seem to be the most sought after.

In one of Heinlein's books, taking place right around 1900, the woman asked the butcher for some liver for the cat. And as he gave it to her he told her that he was going to have to start charging for it because people were eating it themselves.

I don’t go to Costco but I do go to BJs which is the same kind of store. I never looked for it there.  I’ll have to check it out.

The kids.

Good one, but how old are they and should they be cooking by themselves?? They could burn the house down! 🙄

If they can reach the stove they're old enough to cook bacon.

And start the coffee pot.

:P
