Prairie Dawg, SASS #50329
Good Evening: Bought a Uberti 1866 for my wife many years ago, and had it cut to fit her. She hasn't shot CAS for several years now, and I would like to put a standard buttstock on it and use it myself. My question: Do I have to stick with a carbine buttstock, or can I look for a short rifle buttstock, and fit it without modification? Thanks for your guidance --Dawg
I. M. Crossdraw, SASS# 8321
Howdy Dawg, Have tried this before switched a 73 buttstock on a 66 carbine and it fit. That was a few years ago before I gave the 66 to Little Crossdraw. I don't know if that is possible with some fitting. I have a 73 carbine and try to fit a straight buttstock on it. I have to let you know.

I. M. Crossdraw, SASS# 8321
Hey PD, The straight 73 buttstock do fit on a 73 carbine, although have to redrill the screw hole of the upper tang. The lower tang screw hole lines up with the buttstock. But I know that I have switch a 73 buttstock on a 66 and they fit the last time I did it. I don't know if there is any changes on the newer buttstock. If you have a 73 buttstock, you can try it out on your 66. Regards to you and Skipper. Abilene, SASS # 27489
Dawg, the frame is the same for the carbine and rifle so the buttstocks interchange. Howsomever, if you go back far enough there were some differences in the frame and newer stocks might not fit, and you said this is old. If you have a '73 pull the stock off and see if they interchange, if they do then most '66 stocks will too. If not, then you will know it. Colorado Coffinmaker
DEPENDS (No, not the ones in the plastic package). Some lustrum ago, Uberti Changed/Standardized rifle butt stocks. Depending on the age of the '66, the Screw Holes may be located differently. If both rifles are from the last 15 years, they should interchange easily (maybe a little fitting). Bailey Creek,5759
You could get with some shooting pards. Maybe one of them will agree to seeing if his Buttstock, will fit your rifle.
T.K.
A '66 stock will fit a '73 ( and vise versa) however the comb angle is slightly different. But it is practically unnoticeable. FYI 1876/ 1886 interchange as well as the 1892/1894.
