Forty Rod SASS 3935
...at the VA facility just down the road, is a little African American lasdywith light gray Rastafarian braids. She's hyperactive and seems to truly love her patients. She was extra nice to me when she found out my son is married to his "Nubian Princess" and would stop by to chat when she had a moment free. About the first of my second week there she popped in and asked "Hey, Tom. Do you know what I did before I was a nurse?" I didn't have a clue. "I was an Apache Helicopter pilot." I blurted out "You were a chopper jockey?" The friendship got stronger. I would have never guessed that this petite little nurse had combat creds, and yet was so easy and caring to her charges, always upbeat and happy. Linn Keller, SASS 27332, BOLD 103
Long years ago, when I was still a working medic, I was one of two finalists for flight medic. I got beat out by a petite little girl -- her name was Holly and she had a big cast on her leg from where her horse stepped on her foot. Somehow I did not mind getting beat out by this petite little girl: she was damned good at what she did. She was also half a hundred pounds lighter than me and a foot and a half shorter. That meant a greater ability to function in the cramped confines of The Bird, and that's fifty pounds more fuel they could carry. When you described that petite little nurse I thought of Holly, and that's a good memory. As an aside -- Captain, forgive my being forward, sir, but two things: First, you have excellent taste, sir, and Second, computers hate me too! 1
watab kid
ya know - ive always said that when you meet someone you should never be surprised at what they might have done in life , most of us that are a bit older have a past and ya might be very surprised at where weve been and what weve done , i usually ask , the gal that works the range counter off days from me asked me last week wgat i did before i was retired and doing this , she was quite surprised - told her just because i got a scragly white beard and hippy like white hair today dont mean i didnt do some interesting things in the past , but young people dont think about those things 1

On the other end of the spectrum, one of the hospitals in which I worked we had a nurse that looked like Aunt Jemima. And she was pretty much a constant pain in the pharmacy's as...pirin bottle. One day after a hassle with her the pharmacy director said "Yeah, she's a PITA, but if you're ever here as a patient she is the nurse you want caring for you" Nurses are special people. I've worked in 3 hospitals, seen their job and I wouldn't want it! I've gone up on floors that smelled like sh......poop and seen nurses cleaning sh........poop off each other. Forty Rod SASS 3935
I have lucked out on nurses almost everywhere I've been. My Amber Team at the local VA facility rates at the top of the list...and the admin lady who holds the whole team together is right up there with rest. They just can't be beat. If I were half my age and single.........but I'm not. Edited November 20 by Forty Rod SASS 3935

Marshal Mo Hare, SASS #45984
My experiences were that nurses were seldom assigned to the same patients more than two consecutive days, especially in ICU.
