Highway 101 leaving Ventura heading towards Santa Barbara in 1912.
U.S. 101 is a highway, stretching from Los Angeles to Tumwater, Washington. The California portion of U.S. 101 is one of the last remaining and longest U.S. Routes still active in the state, and the longest highway of any kind in California.
May be an image of ocean and water

No problem at all to pull over and stop for pictures.  Actually looks more like Highway One than 101.  I don't remember 101 being that close to the Ocean.  Of course I some older and my memory is shot.

It still runs close.  Probably a stretch where they are the same.

Highway 1 and 101 are the same route. Different markers for some reason.

In some places they are, in some places they aren't.

Is this the road the song "Ventura Highway" is about?

Highway 1 and U.S. 101 do merge in some areas. Highway 101 does run right next to the beach and along the rocky crags south of Big Sur. It’s a really nice ride.
