The Rainmaker, SASS #11631
Don't want to hijack, but I do want a clarification and didn't want to get too wordy, but here goes. We're going to have a Josey Wales day and be shooting either five pistols or four and a SG. The "rifle" pistols will be staged (as would a rifle) unless starting with them, then your actual pistols will be staged. So, for whatever reason, you restage a pistol and it has a round in it, not under the hammer; safety penalty (as you would with a round on the carrier of a rifle or hull left in a SG) or no call. There are no specific SASS rules for any "unofficial" categories...BUT... IMO That would be a NO CALL...the safety penalties for rifles and shotguns only apply to those TYPES of firearms. Not being able to comprehend the possible engaged target engaged I make no call. Well, if you are spotting or even ROing some of the best shooters, and you can't count fast enough or see well enough (or stop a shooter quickly enough) then hand off the spotting stick or timer and do some posse work which you can handle well. This game is based on and requires spotters to see ALL misses and skipped targets, and an RO who counts rounds fired and also watches target order. When a range officer "gives a fast shooter a pass" because of their speed, it does hurt all other shooters at that match. Speed is the main goal and the winning strategy of the game anymore, and not having spotters who keep up with that increasing speed hinders that part of the game. We thank you for helping, just make sure you are up to the job. And yes, we know all the match officials are volunteers. No one thinks less of you if you say "I can't spot for this shooter..." And it was hot: triple digits. Fordyce.
Garrison Joe, SASS #60708
Have done - counted and RO'ed for M.B.. and Scr. and H.T. and E.R. and others running 12-14 second stages. It will make you wonder on a round-count stage "Did I just see that right?" Not every SASS pard is up to that task. So, the Clint Eastwood "limitations" line applies in spades. good luck, GJ
Widder, SASS #59054
Fordyce, if you think that is fast and hard to count for, you oughta see some of the fastest Gunfighters in their practice runs for world record speeds. Example: most of those speed demons can DRAW and dry fire their pistols for 10 simulated shots AND reholster in around 1.5 seconds. YES, 1 and 1/2 seconds for the DRAW and 10 separate audible clicks of their 2 revolvers and reholster in less than 1.5 seconds. Best regards......... and don't blink. ..........Widder
