Alpo
I think the title pretty well says it all. Trying to research this I find New York state has gun laws in respect to handguns, and New York City has more stringent gun laws in respect to handguns, but I can't find anywhere where they define what a handgun is. Federal law says a cap and ball revolver is not a gun. I think California disagrees with them. I think New Jersey disagrees with them. And I suspect New York State disagrees with them. I strongly suspect New York City disagrees with them, but I can't find anything that says yes or no.
Marshal Mo Hare, SASS #45984
I do think there is something in NY Law that objects to them.
Rye Miles #13621
I’m pretty sure they treat them as a regular firearm as does a few other states.
Dantankerous
No worries. Join a gang of criminal thugs and you can get, have and carry whatever you want in NYC. Pretty sure same goes in Chicago too.

Alpo
As I read that legal beagle site, a black powder gun is a gun in New York, and is therefore treated like any other gun. So in New York City you would not be able to have one without a New York City pistol permit. Is that the way it reads to other people?

I remember seeing bp guns for sale on the classified here and other gun sites and they all say shipping to your door unless your state doesn’t allow it. There’s maybe a half dozen states (?) that treat the bp guns as regular firearms. New Yprk, NJ, California and not sure on the rest.

Long Gun Preacher
I live in NJ, heaven help me-black powder guns are firearms, period. As are bb guns! I would assume that NYC is exactly the same. The advice given me once is don't ever, ever, enter NYC with anything that can be construed as a firearm.
